I now steal clothes from my son’s closet. He’s a boys’ size 8, which is a bit snug on me but I like the tailoring! During the summer, I often wore his Ralph Lauren big pony shirts (much to his chagrin and humiliation). But the last straw for him was when I put on his school-uniform jacket to do school drop-off (“ARE YOU TRYING TO RUIN ME? THIS IS SO EMBARRASSING”). Fine, I’ll get my own schoolboy jackets.
Thanks to J. Crew‘s amazing fit, it’s like I’m wearing my son’s clothes but better – and not just for his image. The Petite blazer ($198) hits in all the right places. Add a bright floral top ($150) layered under a crewneck ($52-$65) – the more color the better; we’re not actual school boys and we need the extra feminine touches – plus Bottega Veneta loafers (at Barneys New York for $620), DL1961 jeans (on Shopbop for $148), and a stolen-from-the-boys Stella McCartney signet ring (on Net-a-Porter for $335), and I have a new fall uniform.
