Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire

Guerlain has just released a new fragrance, La Petite Robe Noire ($80 for 1.6oz) — not to be confused with another Guerlain fragrance of the same name, which the house released a few years ago in limited distribution and has nothing to do with this one…it’s confusing I know! Adding to the confusion is the name itself because when I think of “Little Black Dress” I automatically think Chanel. Nevertheless all this confusion is worth overlooking because the scent itself is pretty unique. It starts off a bit masculine, but quickly turns to a powdery sweet scent (it kind of reminds me of those flavored candy powders that I used to eat as a kid). I’ve never worn a fragrance that has changed so quickly once it hit my skin..I wonder if that has anything to do with the bottle which fades from black to a powdery pink!? Notes include bergamot, black cherry, black rose, almond, smoked tea, patchouli, tonka bean, and licorice.

The bottle has an upside down heart shaped stopper and the curves of the bottle are supposed to mimic a women’s shoulders…I like it! For anyone looking for a middle ground between an aggressive musk-based or oriental scent and a frilly floral, this would make a great option.
