Jil Sander’s New Clutches: The Beginning of An End

I still tear up when I look at photos of the last Jil Sander show in Milan, now regarded as one of the most emotional moments of fashion. I don’t think anyone will forget Raf Simon’s misty-eyed goodbye, nor the hundreds of editors (myself included) who stormed the runway stomping and clapping in support.

Raf leaves behind not only one of the strongest collections of the season, but a bold new turn for Jil Sander bags. This is usually minimalist Jil as we’ve never seen the brand before: heady, decadent, even flashy. The tiled-silver Marivaux clutch (on Net-a-Porter for $720 ) shines like an intricate disco ball, though it still speaks of a crisp, clean eye. Enter a colorful crew: from a metallic-green lunch-bag style ($663) rich and bright enough to bring an exclamation point to the dowdiest of dresses to their bold, magnified view on leopard calf-hair ($987) to sorority-girl chic: the hot-pink Maja clutch ($691) topped with varsity lettering. Variety is the spice of life, and this Fall, Jil Sander is heavily seasoned.

  1. He did leave with a bang didn’t he? His last collection for Jil Sander is amazing and honestly I think Jil herself has her work cut-out for her!! These bags are gorgeous!!
