Marc Jacobs NYFW Spring 2013 Collection: White Lines (Do It)

Not those kinds of white lines, silly! Grandmaster Flash reference aside, I’m talking about the white – and black – lines that came to life all over Marc Jacobs’ Spring ’13 collection. As Marc put it, this is a collection revolving around a few of his favorite things. Namely, stripes. All kinds of stripes! From sixties Mods to Warholian Edie Sedgwick to frisky court jesters, from blocked to fuzzy to painterly to illustrative, deceptively simple black-and-white geometry ran rampant. And bags to match, literally. They also matched the refreshing new sleekness Marc has opted for this season.

It all brought me back to when I initially fell in love with Marc Jacobs. How often do I still rave about my Perry Ellis striped jackets from Marc Jacobs circa 1993?! Two decades later, we have now come full circle, and I couldn’t be more satisfied, while Marc couldn’t be more evolved. Boxy, little satchels; equal parts lady and club kid; slim, envelope clutches; round, curvy boxes; clean top-handles, and then – when you least expect it – deliciously crisp leopard spots, too! Looks like Marc and I share the same favorite things! I’ve always felt a certain kinship with the designer, ever since those original jackets so many years ago. Come Spring, I’ll be worshiping Marc’s sharp lines all over again; sometimes life just has a magical way of working out.
