Alexander Wang Pelican Bags: Birds of a Feather…

And we do know Wang devotees do flock together! At the ripe age of 28, Alexander Wang is all grown up. Well, at least his Fall bags are (we know he’s still a kid at heart who can’t resist a good dance party). The Pelican introduces us to a brand-new shape, one that’s simple but heavy.

A duffel shape swathed in thick leather reminds me think of a hard-shell taco (or do I just have a hankering for Mexican?). An uncompromising shell of cowhide like this makes a bag very weighty – though Wang is no stranger to hefty bags, with his Rockie and Diego classics loaded with studs. Anyway, I prefer a streamlined satchel ($985) and weekender ($1,500) to be as light as they are clean. And these are a pretty pure departure from Wang’s hardware-laden aesthetic. But I do love the clutch ($1,025). No weighty issue here and in natural deer (oh, no, not Bambi’s mom!), it gives a minimal bag a big sense of luxuriousness. Available on Shopbop.

  1. I am obsessed with Alexander Wang right now. The fall clothes, shoes, and bags are all wonderful. I have been unable to see the Pelican bag IRL but I really love it in the pictures.

  2. New Alexander Wang handbag arrived yesterday and we love them. Minimal gold tone hardware and removable shoulder or crossbody strap.
Alexander Wang ‘Pelican’ was inspired by a brand of carrying cases for shotguns- that is where the name comes from.
