Ets Callatay Women’s Twist Upper Platforms: Step Right Up

Unlike most things that say “Made in France,” Ets Callatay shoes are 100% made in France. In fact, they’re made in Paris! Isn’t it nice to know you’re not being tricked? There is something so edgy and French about these shoes. They’re totally simple but have details that give it away as something created by a seasoned artisan. No one else will have a pair exactly like yours. Watch this video on how the shoes are made. Every detail of it is so fascinating! Some parts are more complicated than you would think, while some are way too simple (like, just glue it!). What is most striking, though, is that it’s just one guy sitting in a studio making shoes. Maybe it was just for the purpose of the video, but you have to watch to see what I mean. It takes him 25 hours to make each pair. Can you imagine? These platform peep toes are maddening! The upper is vinyl and leather, twisted at the vamp, with a painted wooden platform (check out some of their other shoes if you like the exposed wood look). These are not in your face Kirkwood creations, but the subtlety in the genius of it is actually more exhilarating. Nobody will know what you’re wearing, but you’ll know and isn’t that more satisfying?
