Frugal Snob: John Frieda’s New Color Specific Haircare

john frieda

I have color-treated hair, but I also have very dry hair which makes it critical that the shampoo/conditioners I use target both (a good color care product should be made with dry hair in mind). Aside from Serge Normant’s Meta Blonde line I’ve never seen products that were made specifically for the color of your hair however. Now John Frieda has come out with a line of shampoos and conditioners made for those with red hair, brown hair (you could also use if you have black hair), and blonde hair (you could also use if you have gray hair)…smart! Not all hair colors fade the same way and I love that these are formulated to not only tackle fading, but also to enhance shine and treat dryness. You can use these color-specific products whether you have natural or color treated hair. I went to an event the other week where we got to checkout the new products and I’ve been using the one formulated for blonde hair since. My hair was reallllly long at the time of the event and so I had some issues with the products at first – mainly that it took a lot of conditioner for me to work out the knots in my hair. Now that my hair is a more manageable length (still on the long side) however they’re great! The products have a clean scent and make it easy for me to style my hair post shower. They’ll also come very in handy to prevent my hair from taking on a brassy shade when it starts getting warmer.

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

  1. These shampoos have been available for the better part of a decade, the blonde formula even longer. I remember buying it in high school when I was 15 or so (14 years ago). I found that they dried my hair out terribly. They myself have reformulated but I’ve never wanted to spend the money again in case it was the same.
