I have the world’s strongest nails. I’ve even used them as a screwdriver to open battery compartments on my son’s toys. It’s a blessing and a curse, though. They grow faster than weeds. I know I shouldn’t complain, but if I don’t get manicures every week and half, they grow so much that you see the unpainted roots. Friends always ask what I use/eat and my answer is always strawberries and champagne! In all seriousness, I don’t know why you would want your nails to grow fast. Strong, yes. But fast – why? I promise you it just means more manicure bills. If yours are prone to breaking and peeling, though, then I guess I can understand the desire and I have just the trick.
My friend swears by the Julep nail growth serum. It uses a protein-peptide to build keratin in your nails and boost collagen in your cuticles, which is really helpful if your manicurist treats the cuticle clippers as a weedwacker. The formula also softens out your nail ridges, so that polish will go on smoother (and yes, you can use this product on already polished nails). I tried it after cutting my nails too short (I went a little extreme myself with a fresh new nail file) just days before Fashion Week. You brush the serum over the cuticles and on the underside of the nail tip, not over the whole nail the way you would with polish. And I will say they grew fairly fast (supposedly if you use it twice a day, it should take two to three weeks for serious results to be visible), but then again mine always do so I’m not the best test subject. I will say that if you have brittle nails that grow at a sloth’s pace, this can only help! Available at Sephora.com for $38.
