Polka dots are the perfect spring trend – graphic, flirty, and fun. But I prefer the subtlety of more abstract prints. There’s nothing wrong with in-your-face dots, but for those who don’t like to be so bold, there are other spotted alternatives to evoke the look. Zoe Saldana’s black and white MICHAEL Michael Kors sweater (at Neiman Marcus for $120) is a great example. Small dots decorate the sleeves, while large spots take center stage, playing with the pattern just enough to turn heads without causing onlookers to shake their heads. Here are some more of the hottest dots this season:
Dolce & Gabbana Floral Printed Wool-Silk Cardigan: In honor of the blooming buds of spring, Dolce & Gabbana’s dots have partnered up with florals for something a little sweet. On Farfetch for $1,098.97.
Topshop Felt Tip Polka Dot Rolled Sleeve Crop Tee: Inspired by a Scantron test maybe? This Frugal Find fills in the bubbles with inky imprecision. At Nordstrom for $20.
Kensie Reversible Dot Sweater: This polka dot print may not be that unusual, but it’s got a secret – the sweater is reversible! At Nordstrom for $68.
Kate Spade Deborah Dot Scarf: If you’re not ready for all-over spots, why not ease into the print with a light scarf. Wrapped up around your neck (or bag or wherever you’d put it), the dots are barely discernible. At Nordstrom for $128.
Commando Polka Dot Tights: I guess it’s the job of tights to take a back seat to other pieces, but sometimes your legs crave some extra attention. A lot of flashy styles take it too far, but a simple polka pattern is spot-on. On Shopbop for $32.
