I finally met beautiful jewelry designer Ashley Pittman at her personal appearance in Dallas last week. I’ve been an admirer of her work, but there’s more to it than meets the eye! Since volunteering for the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative in Rwanda in 2006, Ashley has sought out ways to help East African communities in need. Her jewel line provides training and employment to local artisan groups there who use fair trade gems and carved natural horn to create these unique pieces. All of the jewels are true standouts. Made from recycled taupe bone, the spiked bronze and bone necklace ($645) provides a sense of authority to any outfit, while the marbled Almasi horn cuff ($815) gives you some polish. 10% of the profits are donated to fund schooling and healthcare for the Kenyan tribes that Ashley visits, so don’t be shy when you buy! Available on NET-A-PORTER.
