Top 5 Copycat Bags: All Look the Same

Anya Hindmarch, Valentino, Saint Laurent, Tory Burch, Michael Kors Red Bag

Bags are all starting to blend into each other. I can’t tell them apart. Are you seeing a pattern here? Even for a classic shape – one that should be timeless enduring – this look is getting really old. There has got to be a way to ensure a bag is versatile without being boring.

I’m not asking for a lot. I just need something: some detail, any kind of distinguishing feature that imbues character. Okay, Valentino does their rockstud thing, but even that’s not cutting it anymore. Designers all copy each other, that’s a fact. But I would like a personal touch here and there – or at least some effort. Out with the generic and in with the unique!

1. Anya Hindmarch Bespoke Ebury Large London GrainAnya’s banking on the fact that you can get a personal message embossed on the lining to convince you this bag is super-special. At Anya Hindmarch for $3,210.

2. MICHAEL Michael Kors Large Selma Top-Zip Satchel: You expect Kors to keep it clean and simple. Aside from saturated leather, that’s all I can say about this trapeze-edged tote. Available for pre-order at Neiman Marcus for $358 (expect delivery by May 7th).

3. Valentino The Rockstud Medium Leather Trapeze Bag: No doubt Valentino’s stud-accented numbers have no trouble in the desirability department, but let’s face it: this is another red bag with a sprinkling of hardware. On Net-a-Porter for $1,895.

4. Saint Laurent Sac Du Jour Leather Tote: Sac Du Jour or sac on repeat? Even Hedi’s bold revamp of the brand can’t make this Hermès-inspired bag feel fresh. On Net-a-Porter for $2,950.

5. Tory Burch Robinson Mini Square Tote Bag: Tory may have stamped this one with her signature logo (as she is wont to do), but a branded detail isn’t enough to offer any originality. At Neiman Marcus for $475.

  1. I tend to agree, the whole gusset thing is done and done. I do however give props to Valentino, the Rock Stud is their something extra personal touch. I also give props to the Michael Michael Kors bag….it is a fab bag with an affordable price tag.

  2. Well, I’m pretty sure that the Ebury has been around since 2003, so I’m not sure why its on this list.

  3. I think the only thing similar here is the hue. All bags have a body an handles. They don’t look any different from the previous post shape-wise.

  4. I feel like the Valentino is highly inspired by the famous Céline Lugage Tote..
The Michael Kors is suprisingly chic and desirable (on picture at least) !
A nice bag debate that could go on forever.. 🙂

  5. Don’t forget Prada Saffiano tote and Fendi 2jours really make it all about these minimalist looks. Though traditional in their styling…to me it is the modern women’s uniform/ tote.

  6. If you want an even more frugal addition to this batch, Coach has a bright cherry red tote that’s available for $260 with a 25% off coupon. It has pockets like there’s no tomorrow and will fit a 15″ laptop with ease (for those of us who need something cheerful for work).
