I know I’ve been harsh on Giuseppe Zanotti bags (while I do love the shoes!), but can you blame me? I have nothing against studs and spikes – on the contrary – but they’ve got to be well-executed to work. The latest, a pair of clutches adorned with a big band of studded hardware, is a big improvement, but it’s not exactly revolutionizing my image of Zanotti’s bag brand, either.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s in classic black or cherry red, butter-soft nappa leather simply can’t support the weight of this oversized hardware. The chunky embellishment would have fared much better had they paired it with stiff box leather instead. You can already see that the slender flap is weighed down (and that’s before wear and tear), which makes the clutch look poorly made. But there’s nothing off-kilter or offensive about it. Actually, with an ‘80s-glam vibe, it’s a step in the right direction for the genius shoe designer. What do you think of it: heavy-metal fun or just a heavy hot mess?
