Saint Laurent Cassandre Small Suede Shoulder Bag: Initial Reaction

YSL Cassandre Shoulder Bag

What’s in a name? According Hedi Slimane, apparently not much! We all know he caused a major commotion for the epic design house of Yves Saint Laurent when he took over and changed the name to Saint Laurent Paris. But Yves will always have his stamp on his brand – and on his brand’s logo. Despite the switch, the Cassandre shoulder bag looks very quintessentially Yves Saint Laurent.

The showy plaque of a logo brings to mind Tom Ford’s Rive Gauche days back in the early 2000s, while the combination of a flirty gold tassel and slinky matching strap against black suede stirs up images of the original disco era. A bag like this is only for true worshipers and connoisseurs of the label, especially because it looks more vintage than it does new. And ultimately, that’s the appeal. “Yves” may be off the label (see the inside flap), but he’s still very much in the picture.
On MyTheresa for $1,763.

Pair with: Don’t treat this bag too gently. Instead, mix it up with Proenza Schouler’s boxy biker jacket. Cracked white leather and black hardware means your accessory gets all the gold.
On Net-a-Porter for $2,650.
