I didn’t think I would ever want to buy a Du Jour bag. While I love Saint Laurent’s Duffle and Betty, the Du Jour poses too many similarities to my beloved Birkins for me to feel comfortable carrying one (that’s my discreet way of saying “faux” or “wannabe”). But never say never. Then this showed up at the Saint Laurent boutique in Highland Park (my girl Elizabeth is the best; call her for your all your YSL needs!). Suddenly, my heart was pounding, my ears were ringing, my head was spinning, and my mind was shouting, “YOU MUST HAVE THIS BEAUTY.” Then I got logical: yes, I had just lamented my obsession of micro studs, and I have to say, this one is perfection, but is it possible to get over the fact that this bag is so blatantly Birkin-like?!
I went to sleep thinking about it, and the studded Du Jour was the first thing on my mind when I woke up in the morning. (Okay, one of the firsts. The first thing is always, “What am I going to make the boy for breakfast and pack for his lunch?”) After decades of collecting bags and having owned hundreds of bags, you’d think I’d be sick of buying bags, right?! Hell, no! It’s the reason I work so hard: so I CAN BUY MORE BAGS. Crazy, I know. But other than my family and close friends, bags are what I love most. Admittedly, I also love diamonds, shoes, and clothes, just not in the same mad, delirious, senseless way I cherish bags. That’s it. Blogging about the studded Du Jour has just made my decision: I’m getting this baby. (It’s my birthday week, after all!)
Faux-Birkin issues aside, did I mention how beautifully made it is? The front straps unsnap, allowing the gusset to widen when you need more space. It’s in that small-size I adore, and plus, it has the bonus of a shoulder strap – which the Birkin does not have. Another reason I must make it mine! I am so good at selling things to myself, really. I should get a commission. Available at Saint Laurent. Call Elizabeth at 214-780-0184 for purchase. Also available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $3,150.
