If amazing leather leggings, luxuriant cashmere basics, and alligator backpacks that cost more than some small homes are still what comes to mind when you think of The Row, just take a look at their Spring 2014 collection. Mary-Kate and Ashley have taken their girl on a journey – and she’s not planning on staying anywhere for too long. With plenty of flowing fabric, a la breezy caftans and cropped pants, an array of ultra-slouchy stretch-wool hopsacs that basically wrap around the body, and crinkled georgette and perforated shearling, you get a true welcome into their world of luxe bohemia.
It was an exotic and rich offering from the lovely ladies of The Row, one that felt both nonchalant and purposeful. Extra-long blazers, cropped crewnecks, floral and mohair embroideries, and comfy pairs of crocodile loafers are the perfect friends for offbeat and enticing bags. The ostrich wrap clutches were divine, the touches of macramé provided earthy intrigue, and the perforated shearling hobo made for an unusual standout. After all, the Olsens are an unusually personable designer duo. Pre-show, they stood outside, mingling and greeting guests, and they stayed by the door to say goodbye as we filed out. Let’s hope this is the new standard of good manners in the fashion industry. Quietly, these stylish girls grew up into phenomenal young designers, and quietly, they have developed a keen sense of who they are – and who they’re dressing.
