Ole Henriksen Roll On Acne Clearing Solution ($20) has become my secret weapon for a post-gym face cleanse. It’s super easy to use since it’s a rollerball (i.e. very sanitary – key after the gym), and it doesn’t smell or dry out my skin. It says to apply it before using a moisturizer, but I actually cleanse, apply moisturizer, and then use this as a spot treatment and never leave having a feeling of dryness. The reason I think this product is more effective than most other spot treatments I’ve tried is because it’s formulated with both Salicylic Acid 1% (to exfoliate and unclog pores) and Benzoyl Peroxide 5% (to help clear acne and control oil). Most products are formulated with one or the other. I’ve also found Benzoyl Peroxide to be the most effective acne fighter for me (it’s what is in Proactiv). The one caveat is that you can’t press too hard on the tube. Just gently roll it against your skin, otherwise an excess amount of product will come out and you’ll have to use your fingers, defeating the purposes of a rollerball. Plus your skin can only absorb so much product so if you let too much get on your face it will just sit on the skin surface instead of being absorbed.
