Shea Terra Organics is a natural skin care line made with unique, indigenous ingredients from Africa. The brand hopes to support the economy of third world countries by sourcing all of their ingredients from them. Their main go-to ingredient is shea butter, one of my all-time favorites (thank you L’Occitane!), which they combine with a number of others that have been proven to help heal skin. Shea Terra has a number of worthy buys, but the standouts – blame my sweet tooth – are the ones made with cocoa. I love their shea butter & Malawi sugar 2-in-1 dark chocolate body scrub (on Shea Terra Organics for $16). It uses dark chocolate to exfoliate but also glycolic acid, so it does more than simply rely on the product’s texture to ward off dead skin sells. The scrub is also natural and fair trade, and smells good without making me want to dive headfirst into a pile of brownies (after all, it’s dark chocolate that’s used for the formulation, so don’t think that you’re going to get an overly sweet scent).
Aside from their products, I’d highly recommend reading up on the founder/owner of this brand, Tammie Umbel. She’s an incredibly passionate and inspiring woman on an admirable mission to help support African communities – no small fete given that she has twelve home-educated children, which she raises on an organic farm in the Virginia area!
