Price Check: Birkenstock Arizonas

Trend Alert

I’ve been wearing Birkenstocks’ Gizeh thong-style sandals for years, suffering ridicule from many friends including Kelly (who came around once she felt how incredibly comfortable they are!). Now that the fashion set has embraced the look, though, it seems the company also wants us to suffer higher prices. I’ve never paid more than $90 for mine, and yet NET-A-PORTER is charging $210 for the white pair of Arizonas above. I just bought white leather slides (on Zappos for $89.95) for less than half that! How exactly is this price difference justifiable?? Even still, the cost barely makes a dent in that of Givenchy’s floral Birkenstock-inspired sandals (on NET-A-PORTER for $795). Sure, they’re pretty and Givenchy, but I’d rather buy a nice pair of heels if I’m spending that much. What’s the most you would pay for Birkenstocks? Floral Birkenstock Arizonas on Zappos ($89.95) and NET-A-PORTER ($245).

  1. I’ve been buying mine onlline for years direct from Germany through eBay and paying a third to half of the retail price including postage all the way to Australia. I have bought about 8 pairs and paid between about $30 – $60 (Australian dollars very similar in value to American)

I always buy them on Ebay for a fraction of the price.

  3. I think the whole of the fashion industry needs chill on the crack smoking…prices are getting more and more ridiculous by the minute, to a point where I’m starting to question whether to buy such and such thing…
