Frugal Snob: Softlips

Frugal Snob

Move over EOS because there’s a new kid in town, and his name is Softlips ($3.79)! I’m an EOS devotee, so it’s pure marketing that got me to try this product…couldn’t resist the name, and this product lives up. I rarely spend big bucks on lip moisturizers. They’re one of those products that are consistently better when bought in a drugstore. Case in point: Has anyone tried La Mer Lip Balm? $55, and it sucks! Not only do you have to get your fingers “dirty” to apply it, but it left my lips feeling chapped. My go-to lip products have long been Blistex and EOS. Blistex unfortunately has pretty unattractive packaging (I use their lip ointmenticon), but when my lips are really dry, I’ll layer it under EOS or now Softlips. Honestly, Softlips isn’t all that different from EOS. The packaging and formulation are similarly efficacious; it’s all about which “flavor” you like best. It’s worth noting, however, that Softlips has SPF while EOS products aren’t formulated with sun protection. On a side note, if you find that your lips are feeling chapped even though you’re applying a moisturizer regularly, make sure you’re not using a lip product formulated with salicylic acid, camphor, menthol, or phenol, which can often lead not only to dryness but irritation. Humidifiers are also key this time of year to keeping everything hydrated!
