Nourish Snacks: Eat Happy – and Portion-Controlled

Untitled

One of the simplest-in-theory, but hardest-in-practice ways to lose weight is to simply eat SLOWLY. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain and stomach to register that you’re full, so unless you’re eating slowly you’ll be eating past the point of satiety. Sadly, when my little fingers get their hands on something tasty, you’d think I was a deprived child getting her hands on food for the first time in days! In the end, I usually eat too much and don’t realize my stomach is upset until it’s too late. One way around this is to opt for portion-controlled snacks, and eating one portion and forcing myself to wait 20 minutes before having another one. This way I am sure that I’m actually eating out of hunger not craving.

Nourish Snacks is a new brand started by nutritionist Joy Bauer (you probably know her from the Today show). All the snacks are portion-controlled – one bag, one serving – and they’re all 200 calories or less, and loaded with some combination of high fiber, protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. They’re also gluten, GMO, and dairy-free, and come in about 25 different variations. There is literally something for any and all cravings. Monkey Love (chocolate banana granola bites), Cocoa Loco (dark chocolate chia oats clusters), and Cashew Colada (dried pineapple, coconut, and roasted cashews) are standouts…as you can see I’m a sweet lover…but there isn’t one Nourish snack that doesn’t sound delicious. Admittedly, there have been a few times when I’ve had more than one bag, but the fact that they’re portioned out in individual bags, at least, keeps me aware of how many servings I’m eating so that I can adjust my diet for the rest of the day accordingly.
