I have two very serious addictions (as the hubby and the boy will attest to) — one is Hermès and the other is Apple. I am NEVER without something from either of the brands. My iPhone and Apple Watch are literally extensions of my hands, and well, you know my love of all things Hermès! Though at first a collaboration between companies from such different worlds seems unusual, it actually makes a lot of sense. Both subscribe to the highest standards in craftsmanship and innovation — one in old-world luxury and the other in modern technology. And each one elicits frenzy from fans whenever it announces a new product.
Make no mistake, this watch is as meticulously crafted as anything else from Hermès. The three different styles of leather straps are handmade by Hermès artisans in France, and an Hermès watch face reinterpreted by Apple designers in California comes along with each. When Apple approached the company about the collaboration, they had to bow down to the holy grail of all luxury houses; with Hermès-exclusive faces used, there is no Apple branding visible whatsoever!
Allowing Hermès’ symbols to upstage Apple’s is a first, Apple Design Chief Jony Ive said in an interview with the WSJ. “I’ve been at Apple 23 years and this is conspicuous and singular. I’ve never known anything like this,” he elaborated. The bands are only available when bought alongside a new stainless steel Hermès Apple Watch, so don’t think you can just pick up a new band for your plain old iWatch — you’ll have to go all in. Prices start at $1,100 for a single band, $1,250 for the double tour, and $1,500 for the cuff (price includes the Hermès watch). Available colors are Etain, a deep grey; Fauve, a luggage brown; Capucine, a gorgeous burnt orange/red; Noir; and the classic Bleu Jean. I’m getting the Capucine Double Tour. What about you? Available at select Hermès and Apple stores on October 5th. Get more info on the Apple Watch Hermès here.
