DIY Spa Recipes for Fall

Untitled

Whether it’s an issue of time or whether it’s an issue of price, for many of us, getting to the spa as often as we’d like simply isn’t an option. With that in mind I asked two experts to share their favorite exfoliating, do-it-yourself recipes to help transition from the warm to the cooler weather. Bye-bye dead skin cells….

Jessica Arnaudin, esthetician and VMV Hypoallergenics Brand Ambassador
Ingredients:
1 part raw honey (if you’re allergic to propolis or beeswax – or as a matter of preference – substitute coconut jam)
1 part VMV Hypoallergenics Grandma Minnie’s Oil’s Well virgin coconut oilicon with monolaurin
1 dash organic brown sugar or coconut sugar for softer exfoliation

Combine Oil’s Well with raw honey. Add a dash of brown sugar. Mix until all parts are well-blended. Buff onto lips in gentle circular motions. Leave on for 10 minutes. Remove with a warm damp cloth.

Honey acts as a humectant, binding water to the skin and locking in vital moisture. The sugar exfoliates and increases cell turnover, revealing new, radiant skin. Oil’s Well (virgin coconut oil with coconut-derived monolaurin) is specifically designed to heal micro-fissures, and is especially beneficial for chapped and cracked lips due to very dry weather, sun damage or contact dermatitis.

Try to use a high-quality honey like a real Black Forest white fir tree honey. Heat it and add Himalayan salt. Pour this into a jar and allow it to cool. The amount can be changed based on demand and which areas of the body are peeled, but a ratio of two honey to one salt is recommended. Apply to damp skin (after a shower or ideally in the sauna), massage and shower off. This peeling is a real treat if you want to clean and beautifully soften even sensitive skin in a quick time. The scrub is made instantly, smells delicious and leaves you smoothed and incredibly tender. Himalayan salt wears off dead cells and mineralizes the skin; honey disinfects and softens.
