Runway Makeup You'll Actually Want to Try

NYFW had some crazy looks this season, especially Hood by Air’s un-blended contoured faces (read: clown makeup). One place where we saw beauty that can actually inspire real women was at Theory’s show where La Prairie and makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo led the team. It was all about glowing skin, flushed cheeks, and a nude lip – the no-makeup makeup look at its best. Better yet, this is a style that not only seems effortless, but is relatively effortless to create. It was inspired by a woman on vacation (I’m assuming some sort of beach locale), hence the lightly sun-kissed skin with pink cheeks and no real defining lines.

The key is clean skin. As most of us know, models don’t tend to have blemish-free faces so this look just goes to show that if you use the right products you don’t actually need that much. Here Cellular Softening and Balancing Lotion was used to help prep skin by retaining moisture while soothing (key if you’re around environmental aggressors – or if you’re a model running from show to show…), Skin Caviar Liquid Lift to smooth lines (this, along with Skin Caviar Luxe Cream, made the face a fresh canvas – think the effect of primer), and Essence of Skin Caviar Eye Complex to re-energize the eye zone.

Foundation was applied to the face and neck to even out tone only where needed and concealer helped to camouflage any blemish or under eye darkness. Bronzing powder (used very sparingly) gave a natural-looking veil of color and glow to the skin, and loose powder was applied to seal everything in. Cream blush was applied on the apples of cheeks to give the appearance of a rosy glow. Brow liner was used to shape the eyebrows and create a brushed-up, natural look, and lips were nude (they were prepped with balm to make them look plump and keep them hydrated). And that’s it! Let’s hope we do as the Parisians do, and keep things clean and simple in Spring 2016.
