Thomas Wylde Mission Leather Tote

If you just read the profile on Julie Gilhart, style guru extraordinaire, you are probably wondering, “what are these Thomas Wylde bags she speaks of?” Here is one that we are diggin’ in distressed leather. The rock ‘n roll style makes this is a total LA bag. I can see myself running around wearing something casual, not necessarily matching, and rounding off the whole thing with this tote for the look of being stylish without bothering to try (I’ve lived in LA long enough to be aware of the ridiculousness of it all but sadly enough, I actually claim this to be a personal style of mine). I love the showy studs – I am usually turned off by tacky bedazzling of any kind but the pattern on here is chic and interesting and is not placed there randomly just to be fancy. It also has the very functional exterior pockets we love so much and the bag hangs nicely under the arms for city girls who need to do a lot of walking without their bags getting in their way. At Net-a-Porter for $2275.

  1. My sister has a Thomas Wylde bag in gray leather, and it is gorgeous, but apparantly horribly uncomfortable. She said the signature woven chain links are sharp and cut into her bare shoulder (and sometimes snag sweaters or delicate fabrics) and some of the links have began to open and so the handles are becoming slightly unsturdy. However, she bought the bag from last seasons line on her trip to Italy last summer so maybe the new season line has worked out some of the manufacturer kinks. Still great looking bags though…

  2. I have a similar one from last season, it looks great, the leather is great, but it is REALLY heavy, and the chain handles will leave an unpleasing metal-like smell on your hand.(But I still love the bag)

  3. I love Thomas Wylde bags, they are so great for early-twentiesomethings who want to be stylish but age appropriate – very rock-chick cool and yet still kind of understated!

  4. I am definately pleased with this one, practical but not frumpy, definately a winner.

I like how understated the studding is, the effect is similar to eyelet and perforated leather like this Jean Paul Gaultier bag shows. Its basic and doesnt overwhelm the clean lines and colour of the bag.

    tres chic!

  5. So I just got this bag (2 weeks ago)only in the messenger style and it is comfortable and not too heavy. Unfortunately, the two rings that are on my bag (that hold in the strap) have broken not once but three times and I just found out it is made in China. This disapoints me. This bag was $2350, is it too much to ask that it not fall apart after a few days. Additionally, while I love China for the food, travel, silk and cashmere I like my bags to come from Italy and occasionally France. I am beyond disappointed.
