Stella McCartney White Canvas

stellamccartneywhitecanvas2.jpg

Not using animal skins does not get in the way of Stella McCartney’s creativity. It seems that the challenge has only inspired her to be unique and interesting purely based on design. I mean designing a croc bag is not so hard because the skin speaks for itself and the same is true with any exotic. It’s like a giant diamond solitaire, it doesn’t need design to make it fabulous. This simple boxy bag is snazzed up with double handles that transitions to a almost architectural front detail with the rings. I love the double gusset giving the bag shape and functionality – the interior is split up into 2 compartments for easy organization. This is an exceptional bag that cries out for the uber stylish to give it justice. At Net-a-Porter for $1095.

  1. I agree. Good for Stella McCartney to take a stand on using animal skins, but her bags are priced nearly as much as equivalent designer bags of buttery leather. Also, white canvas seems totally impractical. Pretty, but impractical.

  2. Wow, $1K for a canvas bag! Talk about leveraging your name. Just because it says “Stella McCartney” does not mean the Emperor has clothes or that I’ll drink the kool-aid. 😛

It does look good tho’ for $300 I may pony up to it.

  3. I love the design, but I agree with the consensus, it’s NOT worth $1k. Besides the fact that I’m not a big fan of the majority of Stella’s designs in the first place.

  4. Thank God someone agrees with me. I’ve never understood how Stella gets away with selling her non-leather bags at the same price as leather ones. Am I missing something?

  5. Definitely a case of paying for the name, not the bag. I’m very disappointed in Stella, I doubt she needs the money.

I would be willing to go to $485.00 on this but $1000 is silly.

  6. I agree with everyone about the insane asking price, and wouldn’t dream of paying it. I’m not normally a Stella fan, but I do like the design elements of this bag. Of course, white canvas will get hopelessly dirty in about 3 seconds, and IMO it cheapens the otherwise chic style.

It would have been a very cool and appealing bag if she’d only done a coated, “patent” version, as Marni did with coated muslin on the non-leather Balloon bags. And then offer it in not only white but black, sapphire, cherry red and a maybe a vibrant teal or emerald green. But even then, I wouldn’t have paid more than maybe $600 for it.
