Dior Samourai 1947

You might think this is a museum piece but it is in fact a bag you can actually buy! The Dior Samourai 1947 is like a piece of art, the unique basket weave and straps with tortoiseshell frame is like no other bag out there. It even comes with a Louis XVI picture from tag. It is on the fence of being costumey but with a simple chic dress and stiletto heels you will make the right statement. It is just the most interesting bag I’ve seen in a long time – it is design intensive without being ridiculous and unusable (sure, this is not something you take out everyday, but it doesn’t have to be, this is something you save for the right occasion). I love the fuchsia but the brown is beautiful and elegant and does not distract from the amazing details. Galliano pays respect to the House of Dior with the 1947, the year Dior opened it’s first shop in Paris. Available for pre-order at Neiman Marcus for $3900.

  1. wow. I saw this bag in green in Harper’s Bazaar (the issue with Paris & Nicole on the cover), and I was sure you guys would hate it. you snobs are hard to figure out! : )

  2. I work for a city magazine in Boston, and we just shot a version of the fuschia Samurai bag for an upcoming story. Truly beautiful in person, and really unique. The colors are simply fantastic.

  3. I really don’t care for it at all. Especially at the price of $3900. Might as well get a nancy gonzalez crocodile piece.

  4. i’d like to see this in person but it looks pretty hideous in the pictures. the entire dior trunk show on nm actually didn’t impress me much.

  5. Beautiful or not, yet again Dior never fail to deliver on the seemingly effortless detail clearly apparent in this amazing piece.

Its charming and classy, a real eye-pleaser. If you like it, you look and if you don’t like it you look – the hypnotic power of a bag like this!

    I’m undecided actually!

  6. Hmmm…..I like the snake detailing and the clasp, but, TBH, the weave and the handles looks a bit messy, to me…

Also, I’ve never been a big fan of frame bags, unless they are in the form of clutches (which I love!), or have a long strap (so they look more rich-hippy and less uptight); they’re just too Maggie Thatcher!

  8. This is a work of art. I collect Dior bags and you have to see the one in black, with a Japanese style knot. This style is for the true couture divas and there are only a few of us left.
