Snob Essentials

Ask and you shall receive. We usually don’t indulge when people complain that the bags we recommend are too costly, I mean, we are afterall the Bag Snobs =) But in the spirit of helping out students and our much appreciated educators, here is a bag I think everyone will agree makes for a great student, professor and work bag. It has all the flair without the big ticket. Don’t you just love the gathered detail on this supple and yummy leather? The straps look short but can actually go over the shoulder. This is not for the bike or public transport commuting student, which I am assuming our readers are way too high maintenance to be anyway. It is 21.5″ X 19″ and has a 5″ gusset so you have plenty of room for books, notes and a change of clothes! (If you are Tina, you can fit an entire week’s worth of clothes in there. She once showed up to my college apartment for a sleepover with an entire outfit in her Chanel 2.55). I don’t want to hear any whining about the price of this bag, at $695 your budget surely will not bust. Available at Net-a-Porter.

  1. Strange-this bag is not so bad. I have this question mark for all M.Jacobs stuff but must admit that in picture the bag is worth it´s price.

  2. nice bag. Cracking up at the “budget will not burst” comment.

In grad school, I was so well dressed that I could barely afford food, but it worked out great cos there was always free food somewhere on campus.

So my advice, if you are in the college vicinity and its a choice between food for a few months or a to die for bag, go with the bag. You take in food and you pass it out. Your snob worthy bag will always remain.

  3. OK. I have to ask; how did Tina fit an entire outfit in her 2.55? This is the Bag Snob who admits that her preference is to travel with multiple bags everywhere she goes (barring the incompetency of airport baggage handlers). Come on, dish. Enquiring minds are nosy and want to know.

    HI MQ-

I WAS ONLY 89 POUNDS IN COLLEGE AND MY CLOTHES WERE BARBIE SIZED 🙂

    XO

    TINA

  4. This is the perfect carry-on bag! And for that price I don’t even need to explain to my fiance as to why I need yet another gorgeous bag.

  5. i’d been wanting it to tote around my notebooks and anthologies, but when i actually went to buy the bag i was in for a shocker because this bag is huuge. not only is it extremely heavy (like most MJ bags are) even when the bag is empty, it’s also too big for everyday use.

it’s more appropriate for a weekender bag or a carry-on but def. too big for everyday.

  6. mmmm this is nice. My only concern is that i carry around my laptop and I’m scared it would get super heavy walking around all day, carrying it on my arm… I drive to campus, but once there its all walking and my school is actually the size of a small city…

But I may just have to deal with it because this is gorgeous and I kinda want it, and by kinda I mean really want it.

  7. Hi. I’m 33 and about to finish graduate school and I’ll be moving to Africa soon to work in management in one of the countries in the Southern part where it’s summer 9 months a year. I really need help finding a work bag that is trendy, preferable black or brown, and durable. I have no specific budget but I would appreciate if I could have two bags to choose from (one expensive and another less expensive). PLEASE PLEASE HELP.
