Weekend Bag Envy – Diamond Croc Birkin

orangecrocbirkin.png

I just came home from shopping at Hermes at the South Coast Plaza. I was looking at this black croc diamond wallet and the SA told me that they have an orange diamond croc Birkin. What else could I say but, “Can I look at it, please?” Hello!!! It was quite a production, she had to get it out of the safe and we had to look at it in the back of the store and of course did the whole white glove thing they do when showing all bags. The lock was in a case that she couldn’t open but it was all pave diamond encrusted as with all the hardware. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen!! While I was drooling over it a lady came by and freaked out over it. She said she saw one recently but the orange was not as divine, this one was such a nice bright orange, sunshiny but not tacky. I mean, a black diamond croc birkin would get plenty notice, this was a stand up and shout, “LOOK AT ME!!” bag. Next thing I know, this lady was talking about how many credit cards she needed to take this bag home with her. She turned to me and asked if I was going to get it, so polite of her. Unfortunately, I do not have $148,000 (over $160,000 with tax) liquid at this exact moment to buy a bag with. I congratulated her as she celebrated with her friend as they planned how she was going to pay for it (they discussed going to the bank to get cash but it’s the weekend so it complicated things. Uh, I’m not even sure how that would work.)

  1. The price of this bag makes me quiet.Surely the materials and the working hours put into this bag explain a bit and then naturally the name-Hermes.But still there is lots of air in the price.Surely it would attract attention even amongst those who know nothing about bags, mainly due to the color. The bag looks super but I would never buy it and the reason is said in the previous sentences.

  2. Did you then see them pull the masks over their faces, get their guns out, and prepare to hold up the nearest bank?? That bag is amazing. If I can ever fit an Hermes into my budget (*shudder* I loathe that word – budget) I want an orange one. If *I* ever start robbing banks (plans in progress) it WILL be THAT one! BB , London

  3. om my gosh!!!! greeeeeeeeeeen with envy!!!!! i mean, orrrraannnngggeeee with envy!!!!!

this would be ok even without the diamonds. the color alone is soooo LOOK AT ME!!!!

  4. This bag is a very good way to make yourself smell monney.

My mother have a croc and gold kelly bag, she have never actually used it…

She bought it some years ago, then went to the bank and left it in a safety valut.

When are you planning to use a $150 000 bag???

You can’t bring it when you’re shopping, or travelling and it is not actually a dinner/party bag…

I think that I will in the futur buy a Birkin bag and I hope that you the author of this story will buy (or perhaps already bought) one, because it is a FANTASTIC, classique, CHIC…handbag. But you also have to bare in mind that you shall be able to use it in an everyday life.

  5. when i wa in paris last year, i saw a few of these croc birkins with diamond encrusted locks in the locked up display cupboards in hermes st honore.

they were in sizes 25 to 30 and in shocking pink and lime green croc each. HOTTTTT. i saw the tag and it was 100,000 euros. i flipped. hahahaha!

even my mom’s rouge croc birkin couldn’t fight them!

  6. Hmm…sell our house, sell the car, sell the truck, sell my parent’s house…and I’d still be short! Oh well, c’est la vie.

But the color is gorgeous, it reminds me of autumn leaves.

  7. lol @ the crazed fan who is going to max out her credit cards to get this beautiful bag. If I was dim witted, I think I would have done the same thing.

I think I’ll stick with handbags beneath my average income! lol

  8. Hi Bag Snob Kelly, just wondering if you have any idea how much a Goyard Saint Louis would cost? I’m going to HK soon and hope to prepare enough $ for that bag.

    Thank you!

  9. You ladies are completely bonkers.

Go out and buy yourself a handful of low-grade diamonds ($20,000), go on an exclusive croc-hunting safari ($20,000) then pay a Jermyn St. cobbler to make you the same identical bag ($10,000). At the end of this exercise you will have the same bag, have had an amazing holiday and you will still be $100,000 better off than if you bought it from Hermes.

  10. For some reason I’ve always thought that people who own expensive bags saved up and paid for them in cash. It’s odd to think that people would pay for bags like they pay for cars!

I need to visit Hermes in South Coast soon. At my stage in life I’m still not going to pay more than $500 for a leather bag (which I usually use and keep for at least a year), but I’d really like to get my mom a bag from there. She loves Hermes and the only things I was able to get her so far were a scarf (years ago) and a set of teacups. Thank you for reminding me of My Quest to Give Mom A Bag from Hermes, bag snobs! 🙂

  11. I was flipping through a TIME Fall 2004 Style and Design Supplement and a Crocodile Birkin cost $17,100 and a Diamond-Encrusted Crocodile Birkin cost $81,000 then. And now, it costs $30,000 and $148,000 respectively! That’s almost twice it’s price three years ago! This is what strong demand and low supply for exotics and a strong Euro can do to luxury good prices.

P.S. And I’m also in that quest to buy my mom a Birkin. I wonder how much a Togo one would cost by then…$20,000?

  12. What say you?

    35 or 40
