Snob Essentials

Hello from Paris!

sthonore.jpgDarlings, so sorry I have not loaded up photos (over 100!) of my tour of the original Louis Vuitton house and atelier. I have been so busy catching up with my favorite city on earth and drinking way too much champagne to work all week! I promise in the next few days I will have it up, along with my bag purchases. Paris boutiques go on sale on June 26th, sadly– I’ll be on my way home and will miss it. The Euro exchange rate is insane, by the way. Not that it’s going to hinder any of my shopping but still, kind of hurts when I do the calculations. I know London is going to be worse so I am just not going to think about it. xoxo

  8. Hi Tina,

So glad you are having a ton o’ fun…and bummer about the sales being later then they are here in the USA. But I can imagine the frustration with the Euro exchange…just think of what a deal those Europeans are getting when they go to NYC to shop!?!?!? About half of my vacation to Europe would be shopping, so I’m waiting til the exchage rate gets better – when will that be? in 10 years?

  9. hi guys,

am shopping right now and realized the French brands are 20% less here in paris, even with exchange rate.

the chanel bag kelly wrote about is USD$1200 + 8.25% tax. I just saw the same bag for USD$1230 (with exchange rate of 1.6) AND we get 12% VAT back. so the 12% saved and the lack of sales tax means it is 20% less!

same with Hermes (my friend got a croc birkin here for $19,000. in the US it’s a $24,000 bag plus tax), balenciaga, lanvin and all the French brands. so if I stick with the French, I can shop without guilt!

buying clothes is most unsatisfying, however. balenciaga boutique in nyc has been on sale for weeks but here, it won’t go until 6/25. the French are funny that way, the government dictates the sales and this year it’s 6/25-8/1. two sales a year. no wonder my french friends love american shops!

just saw a pair of $200 j brand jeans for $365. crazy!

    xoxo

hopefully by wed it will be here so I can rock it in NY!!!!

    Thx again T&K!!! =)

  12. Tina,

I haven’t been reading your blog this weekend…so I’m a bit late with this. If you see something you love, give the SA your card number, and they will ring it up on 6/26 and ship it. If they want to, they can take the tax off of the price for you, so there is no need for the stamp at customs. At least, it was this way several years back.

I have done this at shops in the Etienne Marcel area….esp. Kabuki. Most likely the larger stores will not do it, but the smaller shops will. It’s all up to the owners, so smile and say “je voudrais…..s’il vous plat”.

  13. Sue- great tip! Thank you! I will do that today… I think Balenciaga was willing to do it, it sounded like the SA offered but her limited English and my limited French made it confusing so I will go back to confirm today. 🙂 xoxo
