Sergio Rossi Fall 2008 Bags

periwinklecroco.jpg

We’ve been known to diss shoe designers when their forays into bag design comes up short but in the case of Sergio Rossi designer Edmundo Castillo— the results are spectacular! I’ve always adored Sergio Rossi signature sky high heels but never gave their bags a thought (to be honest, I didn’t even know the brand had bags!) until a very clever intern at Sergio Rossi emailed us about stumbling into a bag closet at the SR headquarters in New York! Kelly and I were immediately intrigued and asked for look books, pronto– and received them via Fed ex yesterday. It is always exciting to discover new bag designs and knowing the quality of Sergio Rossi shoes, I am expecting the bags to be just as meticulous. I have not seen these in person yet but hope to see samples very soon! I predict the duffel bag (shown above) will become the line’s signature. This periwinkle crocodile version is to die. Front pocket bags are nothing new but with the subtle details in the flap and twisted handle plus the unusual colors, Sergio Rossi has made it unique and interesting.

sergiointerior.jpgI especially love the many clutches in the line. They are not only sleek and elegant, they open to a very functional and well organized interior. How often do you open a clutch only to have your money fall out or worse, your license? Not to worry, these clutches have built in slots for your credit cards and license plus a zippered compartment for cash or lip gloss! There are also fabulous big bags, made of patent and exotic skin in both slouchy and structured shapes. I am still waiting on prices for the bags as they are brand new but could not wait to share these photos with you! Stay tuned for the availability and pricing list! Or go to Sergio Rossi website for more details.

Love the shade of this patent leather version. It’s vibrant and bright, just the answer to a dreary winter day!

I am really into this clutch. The lines are modern and simple but the color contrast of velvet and patent gives it an edgy appeal. This would work with everything in my closet!

The slouchy boho chic style is urban chic, love the subtle sheen of the patent skin. Very unusual and ambitious to make patent in a soft shape but I love it!

I am usually not one to love zippers all over my bags but this python zippered hobo is an exceptionally well crafted bag. The zippers are not merely for aesthetic purposes, each have a function. The side zipper that goes around the entire bag will allow you to compact or expand according to your needs, it can be a flat messenger type bag or a big roomy bag– brilliant!

  2. Love these bags! Cannot wait to get more info and details. The periwinkle duffle bag is fab for all seasons and I am really into the patent/velvet clutch. It will be perfect for the fall/winter.

    xoxo

  3. Tina Im really loving the clutch as well.. The periwinkle croc has my name written all over it!! LOVE IT!!!!

    xOxO…

  4. Veronica,

Maybe before you make personal attacks on someone for blogging about their subjective tastes about handbags, you should check the spelling of your posts (ie. here, not her and truthful, not truth full). Just a thought.

  5. I’m not crazy about these bags, I don’t feel they have anything special to make them stand out from the hundreds of bags available out there. Yes, they’re exotics, but I’m not that crazy about python and crocodile to totally overlook the design of a bag. I will buy a bag only if I love the shape and the design as well (that’s why I’m not so crazy about the Birkin and the Lindy…or I may still be too young for those at 24).

Regarding Veronica – I think she’s allowed to voice her own opinions, she hasn’t called anyone names or used vulgar words in order to qualify as “insulting”,she just struck me as a more sharp and ironic type of person. And as much as I like Tina and Kelly, I for one am going to speak when I LIKE something and when I DISLIKE it as well, criticism is a way of progressing.

  6. I think there’s something to be said for constructive criticism given in a non-malicious way that doesn’t make it sound like a personal attack on someone who is just expressing their opinion. Veronica is entitled to her opinion and is free to express it in a civil way; however so are Tina and Kelly…your comments may not have been completely insulting, but they certainly sounded pretty rude to me.

  7. Woah, have been trying to nurse jetlag/hang over and general old age fatigue all day and just logged back on to read all the comments.

I knew auto-publishing of comments would invite lots of juicy drama! We don’t expect everyone to agree with us and since we’re so good at dishing it out– we decided we should be able to take it, too. So it was “let them leave comments”! And boy you have.

First, to Veronica– I don’t really consider myself a fashionista but more of a fashion addict and yes, shocking I did not know about SR bags. I may have seen a clutch here or there but it was never a brand that registered on my radar for bags. 🙂

Next, we don’t love all croc for the sake of croc. I like this periwinkle crocodile bag– won’t be buying it but I like it. I will, however, be picking up the one of the clutches. I love the interior. There, that’s my two cents.

Am feeling kind of sick– throat hurts and starting to feel weak. You know how you don’t get sick when you travel because you are running on adrenaline but then the minute you get home you crash and burn and everything falls apart and you feel like 100 years old? That’s how I feel right now.

Oh, and I will load up Paris pictures soon… the minute I start feeling human. Maybe I need to have a glass of champagne? LOL

  8. Tina, you should turn off auto posts if that is truly enabled. this is not good for the site to have children posting on it. for those of you who love to say ‘i can post my opinion’ . . . you should maybe look up the definition of opinion and perhaps think about the verb ‘debate’. if you have an ‘opinion’ on the bags discussed here you should just give that. veronica and lina, u guys are incredibly tacky offering your opinions. is this a joke? do you really think ‘Quite shocking that you consider yourself a fashionista and did not know

Sergio Rossi had handbags’ an opinion?

The following would have been perfectly fine and quite insightful. Thus a true sharing of opinion that provided value. ‘They have had it for a while. The bags started to get better. However, they still are average. I say this because when you hear the prices to the crocodile one. You would not think of paying for it considering you could get something better.’

Then you continue with this . . . ‘Its so funny when you go gaga over a bag that if it was not crocodile or any exotic skin you probably would not pay attention.’

Come on, gals. be nice. no reason to throw Tina and Kelly under the bus because they make money doing what they love. Lina and Veronica, i read your comments about Kelly on the pp. Is it really nice to someone doesn’t have a job because they choose to stay home with their kids and do research on fun things? I suspect if Kelly is anything like Tina she is very smart with a strong business sense. give a little credit here.

  9. I’m not sure I like the periwinkle croc bag. It looks a little too much like denim to me.

Tina/Kelly, do you know how croc/python/ostrich holds up in FREEZING weather (I know it’s summer right now)? It’s just that a python bag might look nice, but I’m afraid of possible peeling/flaking because of severe weather conditions on a new bag (you know, when trying to look fabulous on the Miracle Mile and all).

    😉

  10. Hi,Tina, hope you feel better.I travel a lot so i understand how jetlag/hang over can do for you…old age fatigue?no,no,you kidding!

Well response.I don’t know how other people feel about exotic but I am in the mood of loving it. you want the best.thanks for those pictures. yes,SR is more of a shoe brand than bag.but, next time I will give the bags more attention.

Well,I think why I am here because I love bags and this blog can give me great inspiration.

    Keep going Tina!

  11. I can’t believe the lack of manners from some of you ladies.

First of all, I love being shown bags that I would never dream of buying, but that allow me to dream of the greatest luxury brands available on earth. How would I see all of those bags without Tina and Kelly researching, photographing, and subjectively editorialising? I have never seen a clutch so beautifully and intelligently organized on the inside as that Sergio Rossi. How would I have known about that clutch had Tina not posted it? I wouldn’t.

  12. I’m not a big fan of the duffle bag. It looks to me like a compilation of the iconic Fendi and last season’s Chloe with a twisty handle. Blah. Nice clutch though.

  13. I love the blue alligator… the color is stunning. the clutches are great too!

Not so into the zippered bags….

  14. Hi Tina, hope you are feeling better! Very envious of your trip to Europe! I have not been on the site for a while and all the sudden find all this drama on site. It’s very entertaining. I have to agree with Veronica re comments re these bags. I personally have shunned Sergio Rossi’s shoes for the past 5 years, ever since they changed designers and manufacturers. Also to all the girls out there, it’s actually rather refreshing for someone to voice her honest opinion (that’s what Kelly and Tina do anyway). I often find myself to have similar taste to Tina rather than Kelly, but it does not mean Kelly has no style, it just means she has own individual taste.

As for handbags in general, I find a lot of bags out there to be a little mundane, but that’s hardly bagsnob’s fault. The truth is that EVERY designer is now getting into bags and most of the bags produced are quite boring. Lately I have not had much urge to purchase any bags out there aside from a bag from Hermes (i just got a orange epsom vespa) or a chanel . I think long gone are the days when i used to walk into Neimans or Saks and saw a bag that I must have! (Hubby says that’s b/c i have too many bags:)LOL

Tina and Kelly, i still love your blog and Veronica, keep the comments coming, I find it REFRESHING and definitely entertaining…and I’m curious at what bags you actually like (and i’m not being sarcastic!:) Ping

  15. i saw this bag @ lane crawford last night in pink patent, and it’s not great looking at all. the front closures do not really stay in place and it looks very stiff. it was not featured, tucked behind their shoes.

  16. Hi Sam

We will remove them and we will be canceling auto-publish of comments.

Unfortunately people are abusing it 🙁

  17. B….it was definately not me posting rude comments….my net is still down at home so have not been on the site since Friday lunchtime. Glad you realised it was not me.

  18. Tina,

I know personally the designer of the bags. She is amazing and dynamic as person as she is a designer. We have worked together and she is truly an inspiration. I am glad you see something. She is TRULY a BAG DESIGNER and that’s why you can feel it. These are real bags. They are beautiful and they function.

That’s what we do as handbag designers balance function with beauty. They have to work!

Also, please don’t forget that as she is working under the SERGIO ROSSI Label, she is working within their guidelines, so can you imagine if she had her own collection!

Anyway, critiquing is one thing, but PURE NEGATIVITY IS JUST WRONG. We already have enough in this world.

  19. delightful line of bags! love them all!

i am late in this controversy. but as a hopeful blogger, let me say that the two ladies running this blog must be some of the hardest working bloggers in the business. they really post a lot of fresh content on this blog, and its useful, high quality content. there is a list out in the blogoshere that shows the top money making bloggers. some of them are making obscene amounts of money doing far less work that the team on this blog.

  20. Hi Ladies,

I just came across this blog and i have to agree. Sergio Rossi bags are really among some of the best in terms of quality and workmanship i have seen. I actually purchased a great one from this site http://www.dellamoda.com and i have to say i could not be more pleased with my bag and the price i paid for it. They have some really nice handbags and shoes and the prices are about 50% off retail. I did find the information on this blog very helpful and will visit it more often.
