Marc Jacobs Daydream

mjdaydream.jpgmjdaydream2.jpg

Every season, Marc Jacobs will come out with a bag that is palatable and stylish. For Fall, it is the Daydream shoulder bag. I like this simply because it is simple bag with a twist, done in a tasteful way. It is neither gaudy nor hideous and it’s very well priced (quelle surprise!). The double flap in complementary colors of brown and pink give the urban bag softness as does the acrylic chain (nice touch and it’s not heavy). So retro glam and very roller girl. Many of our younger readers who are not ready for Chanel should jump on this, asap. At $1,295 it is a bargain for a beauty! Buy at Net-a-porter.com.

  1. I look at this as a novelty bag. It’s not classic. In a year it will be at the bottom of your closet. It’s a good May-December bag. In the winter, you’ll realize you need something more, discard it, and move on. Hopefully. I enjoy the muted tones on the leather, but my thing is, if you want to go with the retro look, scour your aunt’s closets or the nearest Goodwill and go with the real thing. It will save you giving in to Marc’s pointless trends, and you’ll save some money too!

  2. I am a younger reader and since I’ve started reading your blog, I’ve seen so many gorgeous bags like this that I’ve wanted. But I’m a college student with no job so I figure if I’m gonna spend this much on a bag that I might as well save up for the classics. I got my first Chanel yesterday and I love it!!

  3. Sorry but $1,295 is no bargain for this one. Marc Jacobs has been exponentially increasing prices in the last year or two, not quite clear why.

  4. I like the colours on this bag, but not the shape. What I love about Net-A-Porter is the size of the handbags in relationship to the mannequin. Maybe my depth perception is off, but this looks like another gigantor bag.

Steph – congrats on your purchase! I’m still working up to mine. My dream bag is a Hermes Birkin (of course), but I’m still a bit timid to call my local boutique. I keep thinking their SAs will be snotty like LVs. I don’t have time for snobbery when I’m spending cold hard cash.

  5. What is it about MJ that keeps masses interested? I don´t like his style at all and I´ve said this more than once.

  6. It’s fine but I think that PJH is right; you’d get the same look in a vintage shop for less money. And then you could save your money and you would already have a third of the cost of the delicious Nancy Gonzalez Gathered Croc in Purple, which is a real sigh out loud, day-dream of a bag.

However, at this point, reality intrudes when one has to admit that both of them are far too big. Each one is double the size of the bag that I am carrying today. As Empress points out, the NAP mannequins are all 5’11” Amazons and the bags look gigantic on them. At 5′, carrying one of those, I’d look like I was out delivering newspapers!

  7. Suburbia struck first on this one. I picked up a ten dollar plastic purse at the mall, for a camp costume for one of my children and mailed it off to her, that is remarkably similar to this one. All chain strap, pink and brown flap, brown body. My nine year old is dressing as a mean granny in her cabin play I go see next week at pick-up celebration. Maybe knockoffs are coming faster, but the piece of plastic was already on sale from SS stock.

  8. I don’t care for this color combination – the dull purple & rose version at Saks is much more attractive color & nicely minimalist for the fall.

  9. I don’t know. I wouldn’t buy that bag for a hundred dollars, never mind a thousand. Aside from not being a fan of his designs, I don’t find bags with chain links suitable for long hair (it tends to be caught in the strap), so ten points to Marc for functionality – not.

  10. How interesting,,,, I have super long hair and have many chain bags but never had my hair caught in the strap (now watch it happen tomorrow)! If I were in my 20’s and 5’8″ I’d be all over this bag. It is big but so is the croc, which is 15″ wide. Bags are just huge nowadays!

  11. If the bottom of the bag was more structured I would go for it, perhaps… I have extremely mixed feelings about this bag. That chain reminds me of Lanvin bags. I’ll say pass as I am really not into Marc Jacobs and I think that in 10-20 years time he will be one of those forgotten designers who’s designs will be sold for $400 at obscure vintage websites.

  12. Not special enough, and not original enough to cost so much. What we see is the new style of shoulder bag, smaller than what we’ve been used to and a combination of chain links and leather strap. This is the way forward or at least for this coming season.

  13. I said yesterday that I didn’t like this bag, but just had a look in “The Book” from neimans and I really like it, it looks diff in the book, and its a diff color..anyway, Im liking it after all =) its a BIG bag…

  14. What a dearm bag, as a senior I would love to win this stylish and gorgous bag. My grand children would finally see me as cool, and I know I would feel 10 years younger
