Chanel Pavilion in Central Park

Karl Lagerfeld has been making history in the world of fashion for decades, and if that wasn’t enough, he is now making history in the world of Architecture. Those of you in NY have probably already heard the Buzz- on october 20th a 20-foot-tall, 95-foot-wide, polymer-clad structure, fashioned after Chanel’s iconic 2.55 quilted handbag, will be unveiled. But form follows function, and this structure will serve as a traveling museum with exhibition space for 20 contemporary artists (including Yoko Ono!). All the work on display will be Chanel inspired, specifically, 2.55 inspired. The architect, Zaha Hadid had a remarkable vision that has been very well received amongst art lovers and fashion lovers alike, and most importantly- Karl Lagerfeld.

“CHANEL has decided to make the legendary quilted bag the focus of an event on an international scale: MOBILE ART. Just as fashion spreads throughout the world, this traveling event will be presented in Asia, the United States and Europe.”
