The Mademoiselle Chain — Chanel Flap Bag

chanelmademoisellelink.jpg

I am having a slump of sorts… am just so bored because there is a lack of great bags this season. Am I right or am I right? Seriously, it’s time to re-examine the core luxury brands for my needs because I am just not feeling it elsewhere. And there is nothing more core in luxury than Chanel. Hello– what could be more iconic than the chain and flap bag? Maybe the new chain and flap bag? That’s right, Chanel’s new chain calfskin flap bag is aptly named the Mademoiselle and is a rock and rollin’ rendition of the original classic. $2,575 at Chanel boutiques and Chanel.com  Or call Alexis to order 214-520-1055

  1. Yes I must say Tina…we have been lacking in good bag posts recently obviously there are not the bags out there to discuss. Any chance you could let us see the pics of Oscars bags, also you much anticipated very own bag collection?

I love the new chain, but feel the bag is very plain for the price! I am thinking following my Ricky purchase I am looking into a classic Chanel flap bag…it will be my first…I have a few chanel clutches but never felt old enough for the traditional bag & now I do!!! So i was looking at the new Grey colour…maybe in a patent?! I want something Classic and timeless yet a bit different….what would your advise be as a seasoned collector?

  2. Tina as usual, you are right! Perhaps it’s better for us, with the economy down and so many people i know losing their jobs, i can’t bring myself to get new bags…Ping

  3. I thought that you were on a “bag diet”? If so, you should be glorying in the fact that there is nothing delicious to tempt you.

  4. If you’re looking for inspiration get a hold of the October L’Officel (de la Mode et de la Couture). They have their Fall supplement of accessories attached and by the way inside the magazine they question some of Paris’ best known boutique owners (Maria Luisa, Colette, Montaigne Market) as to their favorite things for Fall. All said Zagliani croc bags.

  5. I really like this, but not as a Chanel, for some reason. I suppose price is a factor. If I’m going to pay +$1,000 for a bag, I want it to be something iconic and timeless (75% of the way to my goal!), and while this is really hip imho, it’s not something I would go to Chanel for, you know? Plus I feel the hardware’s a little big.

    Hmm.

  6. Monica I have heard this magazine mentioned a few times on the blog…its sounds great I am British so is this an American only mag?!

You girls are making me feel guilty for purchasing bags…I know Mr Bush has just helped out your banking system but are people still in a state of panic over there?

  7. Lottie – Officiel is a French publication in the French language. It’s very well known in France and they do their `1000 models issue and they publish Jalouse, it’s Jalou publisher, very independent from Conde Nast, Filippachi, etc.

You should be able to fin it in the UK.

  8. It’s got Chanel and it’s got a bit of edge, but somehow it just doesn’t pull it all together for me and make me go WOW. And for a Chanel pricetag it has to take my breath away.

I do love what they’ve done with the chain though. I hope they do that on more of their new bags.

  9. hey tina

i’m a young girl in my early twenties & your blog has helped me a realize that instead of buying the new “it” bags. it’s better to save my money and get something that would be a classic. i have been saving to get a flap bag, but with the new price increase it seems like it’s taking me longer to save 🙁 i would like to buy my first chanel & would like your opinion on what type flap bag to get. should i settle for less expensive chanel bags like the the ladybraid on your previous post or should i continue saving in hopes that chanel doesn’t do another price increase before then lol – thanks in advance!

  10. Hi Corrina

How wonderful that you are recognizing the value of an investment bag at such an early age!

I like the Ladybraid bag for you, it’s young and fun plus it’s a price point that is easier to save for. The dark plum color is very now but it’s Chanel so will last you for a lifetime.

Let me know what you choose! Thank you for reading! xoxo

  11. tina thanks for the quick reply! i feel a lot better now. i was disappointed when i heard of the price increase. at this time it’s just hard for me to justify spending $3,000 on a bag ~ maybe someday 🙂 i also saw a more affordable chanel bag ~ i think it’s called the melrose flap bag with the gradient color from 07. i would also like your opinion on that bag x

  12. Tina, you are so right. Bags this fall have been pretty blah. I also returned to the classics: Chanel and Hermes. I got both the Lady Braid and the Madmoiselle bags for the fall. I think they are really fun! Went a little crazy at Hermes today. Two scarves, croc collier de chien cuff and Kelly ligne wallet in etoupe…I guess I am doing my best to help the economy. No more bags, no more bags….

    xoxo

  13. I’ve been browsing net-a-porter website the other day and I’ve got to say, nothing has caught my eye. This Chanel is no better, I wish they could come up with something completely new-come on, step up to the challenge, create a modern icon!

  14. I always love Chanel this bag looks beautiful. Julie did you get the purple Lady Braid? I saw it and it was very pretty. I also purchased the mademoiselle bag for fall and love it.

  15. Well, that’s exciting that you’ll be writing for l’Officiel! I have been subscribing for 20 years and have seen the magazine evolve (unfortunately, because of deaths in the Jalou family)from a very haute-snob glossy to a classy and modern-design publication. I think that competing with French Vogue for the best Parisian monthly slot has done a lot for the content and quality of the editorials in l’Officiel.
