bottegavica.jpgAs much as I love being in New York, it is so nice to be home! I have also missed writing to you guys in the last few days! But this Vica bag from Bottega Veneta on the left has me puzzled. I don’t understand who would pay $6800 for this woven bowling bag. I mean it’s nice in a vintage classic kind of way but no way is it $6800 cute. For much less ($5700) you can have a Bottega OSTRICH bag trimmed in CROCODILE that is way cuter not to mention more functional than this. What do you think? Is it worth it?

  1. I agree Tina! This is quite high of a price for the bag. Not to in anyway take away the artisan that is BOTTEGA VENETA. However, It seems like a case of an ego-trip. Lead by Tomas Maier (Creative Director). I was in a elevator with him in NYC (welcome back by the way) and he examined me head to toe at least twice. I almost laughed because it was awkward. Although I looked chic with a creme narciso rodriguez coat, pierre hardy metalic shoes, and a vintage petite python clutch. Anyways….back to my point Bottega Veneta has been awfully successful and profitable for the Gucci Group and we all can see why. But, I think the prices are a little over shot. This bag should go for 3,000 to 4,000 at the max. Do you agree Tina? And it is not like the bag is full ostrich its simply adorned, and thats putting it nicely.

  2. NO WAY is this bag worth the $6,800 price-tag. Totally overpriced. Yes it is intricately hand crafted, but it looks uncomfortable to carry, even in the crook of your arm. I would wonder what style savvy gal would shell out almost $7k for this? Madness!

  3. I guess I´m in the minority today, but I like this one. Had I the money,I wouldn´t mind paying the sum required. There is something here that the ostrich bag lacks. I like the brown handle and details with the black bag. Tempting-but luckily I can´t afford it.

  4. Though I must agree this purse is not worth its near $7000 price tag, I can see why Bottega Veneta might price it such.

The rolled intrecciato weaving, for example, is far more difficult to execute that its simpler sister (being unfinished cut strips of leather).

I suppose the crocodile trim adds to the pricing as well, but the scarcity is, well, scarce.

The frame on which this bag is built possibly costs some money, but that’s about it.

As you mentioned, Tina, the Ostrich Noce with Crocodile trim gives you more bang for your buck than this bowler but, who am I to judge?

    A swing and a miss.

  5. totally NOT worth the price tina…and you already know how i feel about that ostrich bag with the croc trim…LOVE!

  6. All beautiful things cost, this one is no exception. It’s not just the leather, it’s the workmanship the method they use for making this bag look so fabulous. We are entering a new era according to which rich people do not offend the rest of us with loud statement accessories, they prefer to intrigue us and tempt us to find out by ourselves that what they wore at last night’s function cost a lot. Bottega’s clients have always been this kind of people.

  7. The bag is different, but that is way overpriced. I understand that quality costs, but I seriously doubt they are spending over a thousand dollars to manufacture that one bag. so that’s a very nice mark-up. But either way, if I had the money I would opt for the gorgeous BV ostrich too and add a little more and get an Hermes over this one.

  8. BV is getting crazy expensive. I haven’t seen this particular bag in person, but it does seem to require a lot of craftsmanship. Is BV trying to achieve Hermes status? I love my BV bags, but they are no Birkin.

    xoxo

  9. this bag is as obvious as a logo bag. The BV weave is so overdone it is no longer discreet

So outrageous that they would dare charge $6800 for it

  10. I have held this bag and it is a work of art. The padded weave and the crocodile trim is amazing. On par with the “H”? Most definitely.
