Snob Essentials

Have it your way with Design Guru Bags

See a bag you like but not in the color or material you want? Now you can customize the color and material of your bag with Design Guru Bags! If you are PETA freak (notice they slyly put up an ad through blog ads, don’t click on it unless you want to lose your lunch) you can choose a man made material instead of leather. You start by choosing one of four bag styles.

mapdetail.jpgThe bags are nothing to write home about but they are simple and functional. Sometimes you just want an easy tote to look nice without making any kind of statement or fuss. stadiacloseup.jpgYou can choose one color or add a contrasting second color in addition to choosing an interior color. Lastly, you can personalize it with a symbol for the lining of the bag (each represent a different meaning– peace and harmony or vitality, etc). It’s kind of fun just to play around with this software. It shows you exactly how the bag will look! Gotta love modern technology. Prices are reasonable at $495 for the Mini Mapmaker (shown above left), $695 for the Mapmaker above right (14″x12″), $795 for the Stadia (shown below) and $695 the West Wind for laptop/work (10″x13″ shown below right). Go to Design Guru now and have fun customizing your own bag! Jump for more photos!

  1. Hi Gina,

No,,,, we are not in a commercial right now– did it say Bag Snob??? How strange!

But I’d like to tell Visa we are available if they need our services 🙂

  2. This is a good idea, I wonder how well they do. the bottom left black tote is not bad..But I will def pass on this.

Hello ALL YOU LADIES!! (and men) October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Don’t forget to do your self examinations. (not just this month but every month) Breast cancer does NOT discriminate. =) Pass the word along!!

    B..xo

  3. Tina,

I saw this commercial last night and I swore it was the two of you. These women look just like you, and in the background was a huge clutch. Oh well Visa’s lose.

  4. I know that YSL will make you a bag, just the kind you want and from what ever leather you desire. Now this opportunity I´d jump to-if I could afford it-but I can´t. And I realize that I don´t have the talent to match their designer Stephano Pilati or others. BTW IMO the bags above are ugly. Who was the designer?

  5. Oh PETA… Well, technically everything they say is true, and I only avoid it because it makes me feel bad, so I guess I don’t have any right to be upset… Because I’m the one being hypocritical (I’m a vegetarian, natch)

  6. i like the totes, and the shoulder bag is not bad either. i like the idea of customization without costing an arm and a leg!

  7. It’s a cool concept, but the bags show above are ugly. I don’t really think I could design a beautiful bag; I’d rather leave bag designing to the experts, and put my money towards that. 🙂

  8. If I want a tote, I’ll just get an Hermes Canvas… since the Birkin and Kelly are so far off in the distance. These DIY bags are not cute… and I don’t mind fur or exotics, especially fur in COLD climates. I understand PETA’s point in California in the warmer climates, it would seem OTT to wear fur in 40 degree “winter” weather… But, I think people are a bit nutty when they put animals above humans. And I will never eat ice cream made from breast milk. Hello! Germs anyone?

PETP – people for the ethical treatment of people!!

  9. What a great concept! I love the idea of designing my own bag. I like the black one, simple yet chic plus it’s a classic shape. I went on their site and they have them in snakeskin also and they are gorgeous!

  10. so funny. i bought one of these bags at scoop this summer. i bought the orange one. i didn’t realize it was connected to a website. its neat that you can customize.
