Valextra Boston in Ostrich

valextra_boston_ostrich.jpg

Who would think the skin of a bird’s leg could be so beautiful? I eat chicken feet and although delicious, it is not the most pleasing to the eye. But leave it to Valextra to make something like leftover ostrich legs into something incredible and luscious. It obviously looks like exotic skin of some sort and at first it is indistinguishable as to what, which makes it all that more appealing. What could be better than exotic but mysterious exotic? The ultimately classic Boston style is iconic and chic and in this brown ostrich with a slight sheen, you can bet that this will take you to the grave and beyond. The price is also incredible, for $2850 you get a Valextra exotic, compare that with the crocodile version for $10,000! Even the soft vitello leather in medium boston is $2380 at Barneys New York. 1. Kelly, what brand makes “affordable” crocodile bags that are beautiful quality for the price? or do you have to throw down for one and just bite the bullet?

  2. Although I normally don´t like Valexta bags, cause they are SO structured and SO serious, this is an exception. Now, really, I think that this would be a bag for my age-of certain age. The color is just right and the price is nice.

  3. That is beautiful. It’s a little structured for my taste, but the skin looks so lovely, I would definitely make an exception.

  4. Great bag and price point…what are the measurements for the mini boston? Also do they do this skin in a bright colour…i’m all about bright at the moment?!

  5. Mumsie bought this exact one at Harrod’s – she called me over the phone to brag about it (because I want a punchline tote but haven’t gotten around to going to New York yet. Ordering from Barney’s isn’t an option as taxes for shipping to Toronto would literally put me in some serious trouble). I can’t wait ’till she comes home so I can live in the bag or something. I know Valextra made a punchline tote in Havana ostrich leg but it’s a little out of my price range right now (something like $4000 Canadian – ouch).

  6. An addition : I took a side view of the bag and oh how I wish it were a bit slimmer. If it were, then I´d like it ever better.

  7. this one is amazing and beautiful indeed, although Valextras can sometimes be very plain, a.k.a boring, this one is stunning.

  8. I am not criticizing this bag at all…but I am a little tickled 🙂 Many designers of all price points seem to be jumping on the “ostrich leg bandwagon.” In reality, a few designers have been using this material for years.

R & Y Augousti handbags, available in Barney’s, have been using ostrich leg for 4 or 5 years to rave reviews because at the time it was unique & I’ve been told it is extremely durable. Their price points are even a tad lower than Valextra but that is to be expected. Valextra ,of course, is associated with the utmost attention to quality.

I just thought I would pass along that if you love the look of the ostrich leg you should look at many designers who do exotics because many are using this wonderful material!
