Michelle Obama Woos in Jason Wu at Inaugural Ball

Michelleobama_inauguralball3.png

As Barack Obama ushers in a new era for the United States, Michelle Obama begins her own revolution with a new era for the First Lady wardrobe. Truly, gone are the days of rhetoric and predictability, which is personified in her choice of dress for the historic inaugural celebration. No more fuddy duddy. Hello young, vibrant and dynamic!

Jason Wu fits right in with this administration’s themes of fresh faces, new starts and change. Just like Obama, he is young (26 years old), multi-cultural (Wu was born in Taiwan, lived in Vancouver, Tokyo and Paris and now lives in New York) and is new to the scene (he debuted his first collection in February 2006). How fitting, right? And fitting it was, Michelle stole the show with the gorgeous, fluttering gown that accentuated her hourglass figure. Look at her arms! Holy moly, she must do like 500 dips and bicep curls a day!! This was a full length gown with a bit of a train which caused her some problems during her dance.

It is rumored, and looks to be true, that the asymmetrical strap was added in to make the gown easier to manage while she attended the 10 balls scheduled. Pragmatic, I like that!! I tried to verify this fact with Jason Wu’s PR firm in Japan (they were the only ones at work) but they could not confirm. I have messages to his US reps but I’m sure I was not the only one. No doubt many designers sent gowns hoping it makes it to the limelight, this gown however was purchased some time ago and Jason Wu saw it on Michelle like the rest of us, on TV. CNN reported that he began crying. It is safe to say that Jason Wu will be enjoying some time in the limelight himself. Jason Wu evening wear are between $3000-$6000.
