Miu Miu Shoe Dilemma

Miu Miu.jpg

I was at Bergdorf the other day with a friend to return a dress her boyfriend had gotten her — all you ladies that are dating/married to guys with good taste count your lucky stars!! Somehow though I ended-up wandering off and buying two pairs of shoes myself. They were both a steal — two pairs of Miu Miu shoes from their fall 2008 collection for a combined cost of just over $600 (something like 50-60% off)! Unfortunately, despite the deal I’m torn as to whether or not I should keep them. One of the pairs is the one pictured above, but in the blue and gray color scheme. These shoes are dangerously high (they only have a tiny platform), and I worry that like pumps from the fall 2007 Proenza Schouler collection that I bought last year, I won’t wear them more than once. Anyone else get heels from Proenza Schouler that season? They had a range of single color pumps that had gorgeous spike heels. The heels must have been six inches though with only a tiny built-in platform and I ended-up only wearing them once — in San Fran no less — and feeling completely uncomfortable. That said, the heels on the Miu Miu pumps are wonderfully original and so fun — like Lego meets Mickey Mouse:) As for the second pair, they’re one of the sandals with Swarovski embellished heels. I have a few Swarovski-embellished shoes already included a red Dorothy-esque pair from Ferragamo and a pair of Dolce & Gabbana ones with crystals that wrap around the ankle — so I know from experience that some of the crystals always, always fall off — but they’re so beautiful I’m finding the idea of learning my lesson nearly impossible. When it comes to good deals, should we take risks!??

  1. Sharon ask yourself if you would have purchased the shoes or anything else for that matter by at full retail price. If you would have than it is fine, if not…well you know the answer.

I think the shoes look firece. If you can pull it off I say go for it.

Oh the decisions of a fashionista….

  2. Return them! They are too high. They are lovely and interesting to look at, but save the money for something you can wear more.

  3. what’s the point in buying shoes you can’t walk in? If you want to break your leg or look hideous while struggling to keep your balance outside a restaurant-keep them.

  4. Sharon, these shoes look like they belong on Klingons — leave it for the trekkies and get your $600 back.

That’s enough for a pair of the fabulous YSL studded platforms (so comfy) in dark blue or magenta 🙂

  5. I know I know I agree everyone is right, but it’s so hard when you actually have the shoes to part with them! Good point about the YSL ones though, that puts it into perspective!

  6. Haha Tina I didn’t see the first part of your comment for some reason..you’re very right and you kind of have to be a warrior to walk in them normally!

  7. I know with these amazing sales it is easy to buy just because it is a good deal. Tina put it into perspective very well. Return them.

  8. Although I actually think these shoes are cool looking..they aren’t something you’re going to want to wear seasons from now, are they? I say, if you buy something you’re only going to be able to wear once or twice a year, it had better be something very classic that can be worn years from now (or extremely cheap, which in this market, 300 dollar shoes that you’ll only be able to wear a few times are not!).

  9. Sharon,

I tried these same shoes on at Barneys. They were the blue/grey pair, as yours are. BTW the pair you purchased are lovelier than those in the picture. There are still a few pair left on Net-A-Porter as well. I really debated on them myself, but left them. I’m glad I did.

Think of the number of super high heels you already own, and the number of times you really wear them. $300 is not that great a deal….I know, it seems it, but don’t forget, the Euro was high when US retailers bought them.

    Take them back!
