Bandana Bags are a Banda NO!

chanel_bandana.pnggivenchy_sacca_bandana.png

I guess I spoke too soon when I made fun of Fergie’s bandana bags because apparently she is a trail blazer on this bandana trend. And Chloe Sevigny, she must be ecstatic that she is finally on trend. I picked out the perfect dress for her from Luella, the Bandana Dress, it is the perfect length to go with cowboy boots. My beloved Givenchy Sacca tote unfortunately comes in a perforated version with the bandana design seared into the bag. There is also a black that is more subtle but still, who needs it? But worse is the Chanel with actual bandana fabric! And if you think this is a one time errant shot from Chanel, you will be horrified to know that this is a part of a large bandana collection that will be coming out for Summer. If you like bandanas, which some might and is fine, get your fix at the Levi’s outlet – $10 will buy you a dozen. Hang it around the house or use it as a bed spread, that should take care of any cravings, just don’t let it spill over to your bag collection. The snobs have spoken, say banda-no to bandana! Givenchy Perforated Sacca Hobo at Luisaviaroma for $1225. Large Chanel Tote from the Bandana Collection, no release date yet but I’m not holding my breath, $1625.

  1. blame hermes for their silly “french cowboy” trend that they had on their runways…seriously, how is that even considered stylish?

further proof that some brands are running out of ideas and scraping the bottom of the barrel. 🙁

  2. Couldn’t agree more Lauren!

When I first saw the picture I thought that they were comparing the Givenchy to one of those hideous quilted disasters that they sell at Crabtree and Evelyn. It was only after spotting the Chanel chain logo that I realized it was Chanel. There are no words. It’s just all kinds of bad.

  3. damn damn damn. i didn’t get any memo that the hippie stuff was supposed to be back on trend. chanel doing the bandana bag — i guess every year they aim to make one ugly thing and see who buys it. last year was the fury himalaya stuff, now it’s the bandana stuff. i can’t wait for next year’s ugly trend.

  4. I’m with the above poster. I seriously thought the chanel bag was something from Vera Bradley until you informed me otherwise.

  5. SO NOT loving the bandana look—I did see this Sacca at Braneys last week isnt that bad..(wouldnt buy it) but not that bad in person! but that Chanel? Shame on you!!! UGLY!!!

  6. That Chanel bag is hideous. What next, Vera Bradley look alikes? B, did you end up getting the sacca? I got the black one, still thinking about cream for the summer.

    xoxo

  7. Hi J–I went back to Barneys last weekend-the SA managed to find the cream color in her stock room-but I just dont like it at ALL!!! I will end up with the black for sure and prob the white, which I love A LOT!!! even more then the black-I know you said you dont get much out of carrying white bags-I carry my white bags whenever I fancy-winter/fall/summer or spring-I love white bags!!! will keep you posted!!!

    xoxo

  8. I think I may be the only person who thinks the Sacca hobo looks absolutely stunning with the bandana design. The first time I saw it on the Barneys website, I was smitten.

Of course, I haven’t had the opportunity to see it in person (living in Toronto does that to you), but I have a feeling it’d be smashing.

On a somewhat different note, however, the price at Luisviaroma is more than $500 USD less than advertised on Barneys.

    Strange.

The Chanel bandana business isn’t floating my boat, either. A whole collection of bandana inspired clothing and accessories? Yikes.

  9. Chiffre,

I have also seen the white Sacca bandana at Barneys, and though it was sorta cute and groovy. It’s $1800 or so, vs. the Luisviaroma site. Plus, you do get the Italian VAT back, so the price difference, is almost $800, with free shipping.

As always, I am very limited this season to only one bag. Now that Tina has put the stop on all things bandana, I am rethinking this. One thing I do know; no matter what I buy, it will not be in a US store. The prices reflect their wholesale price at the higher euro, and that is why (I believe) we are seeing these crazy price differences. Look at NAP…they have two prices for the same article, US vs. European site.

  10. It seems that even those of us who like the Sacca Bandana better hurry up. There are none left on the Barney’s web site, nor are there any left in the Boston Barneys. Somebody out there likes them!
