Nina Ricci Fall 2009 Bags: Snob or Slob?

nina-ricci-bags-09.jpg

I was slightly excited about Nina Ricci bags when I first heard but then remembered Olivier Theyskens is no longer with the brand. What a pity!  Without his edgy take on ladylike classics Nina Ricci just looks like it has always been– geared to mature women. I understand the need to continue to please their core clientele, the older European and Asian “tai tai” ladies (this is why there are dozens of free standing Nina Ricci stores in Asia and Europe and not any in the US).  The ladies were probably freaked out by Olivier, whom I adore.  Wonder where he’ll end up next!  But back to the bags at hand.  I am not feeling the logo.  The hobo style is okay but what’s with the dangling ribbon from the old fashioned logo?  No Bueno!  This is way too “old” for anyone, even if one is old, age is just a number– you don’t have to dress it or carry “old” bags.  I love older women who rock young edgy bags; it’s very chic and much better than trying to wear your teenage daughter’s Ed Hardy tank tops and ripped jeans.

What do you think of the new bag collection?  Snob or Slob?
