Lily Allen’s Chanel Russian Doll: Snob or Slob?

russian doll.jpgrussian dol 2.JPG

There’s no question that when it comes to shoes and jewelry Chanel’s Paris/Moscou collection was one of the house’s best as of late. Their bags however were a mixed bag. There were some truely exquisite pieces (particularly those that updated the 2.55 Chanel classic, the large soft lambskim tote bag with pyramid quilted effect, and the Pouch in Puffy Quilted Lambskin Interlaced Chain Bag), then there were some question marks like the Matriochka (Russian Doll) Enamel Bracelet Bag Lily Allen is sporting above. I’m torn about this bag. On one hand it screams Judith Leiber — whose appeal I’ve never understood — but on the other it’s kind of fun in a cutesy-Hello Kitty kind of a way. It’s obviously completely unpractical…I don’t even think I could fit my Blackberry in it (hence Allen seems to be carrying hers in her hand!) and it surely does not justify the four figure price tag. Given its size, shape, and material I think this bag would make much more sense in the Sanrio aisle at FAO Schwartz than in a Chanel boutique. I mean, seriously, how cute would this be for a little girl’s first purse!?

What do you think about the Russian Doll? Snob or Slob?

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

  1. I do´t this Russian doll needs to be taken seriously. It is just a little something for those, who already have everything, and who just want to splash their cash around. I think it´s actually cute and rather harmless 🙂

  2. GROW UP! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESA there is are some many practical designs available and they choose a Russian doll. The French need a change of mind.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I think this purse is a work of art. Practical? Of course not. As metscan says, just something for someone who already has everything.

  4. I like this bag– I would never buy it due to its price and impracticality, but again, it’s really for someone who already has everything.

  5. I think it’s a cute bag, along with all those other novelty bags. It’s just a bit of fun. Snob. And when you are not using it, it would look cute on a shelf.

  6. I could not stop laughing at your “Sanrio” comment. You totally hit the nail on the nead with that one. Too funny!

  7. Slob and quite silly, but then again, even the jacket she is wearing is quite silly – a shapeless meringue, maybe? Well, I suppose one can have everything, but unfortunately good taste is not for sale.

  8. It’s cute but it kind of screams tacky. Even more so paired with Lily Allen.

I too have never adopted the appeal for Judith Leiber. If the bag can’t fit your Blackberry, it’s not much use at all.

  9. I love Matroshka dolls, but not as a handbag. I think this is right up there with the Karl Lagerfeld teddy bear. Like B said, if it doesn’t fit your phone (in my case a G1) then it’s just not useful.

  10. I love, love, love this bag !

What are you all talking about ? Fashion’s not about being practical, it’s about looking fabulous !
