Donna Karan – Spring 2010

My first Donna Karan show was amazing despite the fact that I almost missed it due to the cabbie not speaking English and getting lost- (don’t get me started). I walked up and a PR girl dragged me inside right before shutting the doors.  Once inside, I found my seat (next to Fab Sugar!) just in time as the first model slinked out in a delicate linen/viscose matte stretch twill jacket.  For Spring 2010, Donna turned to the power of the elements for inspiration– the sky, water, wind, sand, earth and fire.  But how does one marry the emotion and freedom of nature with the sophisticated life we live in the city?  Follow Donna’s system of and you’ll learn the art of conscious dressing.  The system starts with a strapless jersey body suit under a dimensional jacket that you can wrap or belt over a double layered body skirt, or the sporty slice of a pant.  Two piece dressing, as Donna says, creates endless possibilities.

The colors were a soft palette of cloud, sky grey, crystal blue, storm, nude skintone, blush and fire coral.   I had my eye on so many pieces I don’t know where to start ordering.  I’d have to say my favorites were the pieces in crystal blue and sky grey shades, especially a faded linen burlap (yup, burlap in Donna’s hands is supple and pliable) top with a gauzy skirt that I can mix up with jeans.  I also long for the chalk nabuk python jacket– it looked butter soft and so inviting!  I just wish Donna can be there for every one of my fittings to work her magic.  The purple dress she doctored up for me?  I’ve never looked better.  What do you think of the collection?
