Behind the Scenes at Avon

Anew Reversalist.jpgI was so excited when I was invited to the Avon R&D headquarters in Suffern, NY last week. I worked at Avon in their marketing department one summer while I was still in college and I’ve grown to really respect what they do and the products they offer. It was such an amazing opportunity to get to check-out the behind the scenes workings and to speak with the scientists that spend YEARS developing the creams that so many women swear by.

I know that there are some beauty-product addicts that tend to look down on non-prestige brands, but it’s really the brands like Avon that can afford to spend millions on researching the latest and greatest technologies (on average 5 years of research go into a new Avon beauty technology), and on focus groups, and other forms of consumer testing (we were told that researchers sometimes go into the homes of women around the world to study women’s beauty regimens). The headquarters are spic and span and fabulously sprawling. I wish I could have taken pictures to show you all, but unfortunately photographs weren’t allowed. I can however give you the scoop on their latest product breakthrough Anew Reversalist. Learn more after the jump!

Here’s the scoop on Reversalist — when you get a cut on your body it triggers the production of something called Activin and since wrinkles are actually the result of micro-injuries in the skin, Avon studied how the skin heals itself and the potential of Activin in wrinkle repair. As a result Avon scientists discovered that they could activate Activin with a breakthrough new technology called Activinol. Anew Reversalist’s Activinol technology boosts Activin to reactivate skin’s repair process and help reverse the signs of aging. While the scientist I spoke with noted that the product line could be used on skin of any age, it was designed with those over the age of 30 in mind. The Renewal Cream ($27) and the Renewal Serum ($39) just launched this month. The Foaming Cleanser will be hitting January 2010 and the SPF 25 Cream and the Eye System will be coming out in March 2010. To learn more click here!

  1. Thanks for writing this! I have used a few of the Anew products – and I have to say some of them just really kick ass and work! I use that dual Anew eye stuff (the exact name escapes me) and it is the only thing I have found that will really lighten my dark undereye circles.

The wrinkle filler is also such a fixer!! I used it on some eyebrow frown lines and they’re totally gone now, and I haven’t had to use the stuff again. (but will if I get any more deep wrinkles) I haven’t found any of their makeup I like except some lip glosses though.

Still go with Chanel, Bobbi Brown etc. for my makeup when I actually bother to put it on, that is.
