Kate Hudson’s Bally: Snob or Slob?

kate hudson.jpg

There are few images I’ve seen as often as the one above these last two weeks. Everyone seems to be debating whether or not Kate Hudson’s outfit is appropriate given that she is being photographed with her son for Harper’s Bazaar. While personally I don’t find anything wrong with what Hudson is wearing — she’s young, beautiful, and while the Emilio Pucci S/S 2010 dress isn’t my cup of tea (feathers, sequins, and a plunging V are a bit much for me), she looks aaaamazing (those legs!!). I don’t however understand how they could pair this look with such a large white Bally bag. I’ve definitely been noticing a trend of women wearing bigger bags when they go out these days (which I can understand. I too sometimes get too lazy to switch my bag from day-to-night), but this just strikes me as totally off proportion-wise. It’s too bad too because the bag is gorgeous (if somewhat Chloe-esque).

What do you think about Hudson’s Bally? Would you wear it with a cocktail look?

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

  1. Wouldn’t wear that bag, unless she was shopping, or just bringing something to change

into later. The photo is a little weird, with child in hand, however, maybe she is taking him

to some event, including him in some publicity gig. Never know, will we.

  2. WOW!!! VA-VA-Voom!!! Dang, I’ve never seen her look so good. Why she would want to be involved with a serial unfaithful slut like A-Rod is beyond me…but anyway… Yes, a Chanel 2.55 would be much better with this dress.

  3. The bag is oversized for evening apparel, but its roomy, more “practical” size lends subtly to the idea that she is not only a glamorous star, but also a mother (remember how the Birkin was inspired by Jane Birkin saying she needed a bag big enough to carry around all her baby’s necessities). This picture is the height of the ultimate yummy mummy.

  4. She would be more gorgeous if she would wear a sack, like this she’s like a new version of pretty woman with child. But I still love her.

  5. It’s a fab timeless white hobo…but they definitely should have paired such an over the top dress with a clutch for the shoot! I think her outfit is fine in front of her son. Some people are so uptight.

  6. She is adorable and could get away with whatever she wishes to wear, maybe a smaller bag could have been better but….I am sure she has them and chose to be different.

Why would a smart, and beautiful woman would want to get involved with such a man? One needs to wonder………

  7. I love the Bally bag, I just bought the same bag from Zappos on sale last month. I do think a clutch would be better with the fancy dress.

  8. I think the bag is great but the plunging V completely inappropriate – whether she has a child on her hand or not. Her breasts are almost exposed, too much to be out and about.

  9. She’s is not going out for the evening rather she is being photographed for a fashion magazine. People at Bazaar do like to tell stories through photos (Romeo+Juliet, President Obama, Cheating Politician etc…) and Kate Hudson pic could very well be one of those. Even if it is not, fashion magazines are supposed to make us rethink our everyday choices with little bit of unexpected. HB does it without veering too much off the mainstream. We see women with clutches everyday, why would a stylist at HP do the same? Anyway, there is a nice juxtaposition in her son’s look as well. From what I can tell, this dress is also inspired by her musical number in Nine.

  10. Kate looks lovely. The bag is a bit large but it doesn’t look hopeless. It would have been better with a casual outfit. How about a white or metallic clutch?

As for the dress, it’s a bit low-cut (yeah, I’m jealous) but the photo is for a fashion magazine and not all that realistic.

  11. I love the juxtapostion of the bag against the dress!!! And it is Harpers Bazaar, so you don’t look at the image as reality. Look at it as a type of hyper-reality!! That’s what Fashion is all about!!!

  12. Oh how I hate debates over what is appropriate or not. A little cleavage, who cares? She looks fabulous and so does that purse!!! Plus her son is looking precious in his little suit. Very cute image, she is a young girl with a great body. If you’ve got it flaunt it!

  13. I think she looks beautiful. I would love a big bag with a formal dress to become a trend…it would make life so much easier sometimes. I have 3 kids, and not having to decide which essentials I need with me would be great. As for the dress being inappropriate in front of her son…really? Its her son…do you really think he hasn’t seen her in less? My poor children have seen me in my bra and underwear more times then I can count, and less sometimes when they come barging into the bathroom….

  14. this photo is stupid not sure what she was trying to achieve here with her son, what was she thinking!! most proberly only about arod! you would expect something like this from the likes of madonna who always pushes the boundaries when it comes to her work, but even she has boundaries when it comes to her kids, she would never use her kids by slotting them into any of her photos without giving it some serious thought… the kid looks out ta place hes isnt model material & sorry to say hes a ugly little kid..

  15. Sure, she’s a mom and needs a bigger bag, but Versace makes glamourous oversized bags that would be more appropriate. I think the size works, it would just be nicer if the leather had a metallic sheen and didn’t look so casual. The hobo shape is awkward for the dress. It seems like it isn’t supposed to be part of the shoot. It’s as if she just showed up on set and has her personal belongings to set down somewhere.

  16. She looks lovely, however, the big bag does look a bit silly, IMO!

Either she’s supposed to be out and about with her son, in which case, why the evening dress?

Or, she’s supposed to be on her way to an evening event, in which case, why would she need such a large bag?

A pretty, white, or silver (or whatever colour the sequins on the dress are?), clutch would have looked more appropriate. 🙂

I’m guessing, though, that this was just a shot of her going from one photoshoot location to another? In which case, the bag is probably her own and was not intended to go with the dress, which was probably provided by Harper’s.

  17. It’s actually not the Velos it’s the Vallum and I just got one for Valentine’s Day. Couldn’t decide if it was a keeper but if it’s good enough for Kate….I actually needed a bigger bag to lug around my son’s “stuff”…
