Jennifer Lopez in Stella McCartney Black Glossy Shopper

I actually played around with the Stella McCartney Falabella Tote  ($1,145) that Jennifer Lopez was photographed in a few days ago when I was Bloomingdale’s. This time of year I’m totally focused on sale shopping so it says something about the appeal of the bag that my eye was drawn to it even though it wasn’t surrounded by a red ticket discount sign! It’s a simple, stylish, versatile everyday bag, though I find it hard not to think of Chanel when I look at it. I love the rocker-chic side-chain detail, but there is one major drawback to this piece – since McCartney doesn’t use leather in her work, the shopper is made out of cotton and for cotton I really do not think a four-figure price is appropriate (though by that logic I may be somewhat of a hypocrite, because I’m an avid collector of non-leather SM shoes!).

What do you think about Jennifer Lopez’s McCartney? Snob or Slob?

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

  1. I agree completely with the assertion that the price tag is more reflective of a bag made of a higher-end material than cotton. This bag is good-looking but its a rehash of Chanel and, even, Prada. For the money, I would much rather invest in a bag that will be better able to withstand the day-to-day wear and tear that my handbags are subjected to. I am not unduly rough or rugged but I am not one to “babysit” my handbags and I need to feel confident that they will fare well (translation: not look haggard and cheap with time). As we know, some bags that are leather and like-materials even look better with wear. The would-be blemishes give character not heartache. For my money, I will stick with YSL, Chanel, Bottega Venetta and Gucci. Hint: since I am not overly concerned with what others think or say, I am happy to buy from said lines off-season (on-sale). Only when I am totally smitten with a particular one will I plunk down the original price when its the “it” bag.
