Frugal Snob: J. Crew Rubberized Montauk Tote

jcrew.jpg

Having always been a fan of the Hermès Garden Party Amazonia Tote, what with its buffalo leather and Brazilian rubber façade, you can imagine my immediate attraction to this J.Crew version. Not only is its price less than 10% of the Hermès version, it’s equally as functional and stylish. What’s also great about this bag is that it’s truly unisex, which means a busy guy on the go can carry this as easily as a new mom can fill it with baby gear. The rubberized canvas adds a somewhat upscale touch to what would otherwise be the most practical weekend tote ever. A sleeker alternative to the classic LL Bean canvas tote, J.Crew’s fashioned their’s to be trimmed in leather with antiqued-brass hardware, with a snap closure on top to adjust your capacity accordingly. It’s very lightweight and comfortable in the hand–perfect for weekend getaways via car or train–ensuring that there’ll always be room for more in its fully-lined interior. Stylish and utilitarian, it’s as much at home in Central Park as it is on the Santa Monica Pier.

  1. i like it! i’m a big fan of rubber and leather together. i recently needed an inexpensive tan leather bag that would be work appropriate and picked one up from j.crew. i’ve been really impressed, the quality is quite good. it’s not easy to find well-made, understated bags in this price range.

  2. I think the J Crew bags look great. Especially at their price point. I would like to know more about the designer/ design team.

  3. I read your other one and I’m glad to see that you followed advice. This one is much better. The names are very strange and unusual. I personally don’t like them, but names don’t really matter right now. Keep working on your capitalization after quotation marks. Also when you write dialogue you use and an apostrophe.

  4. Blue is a very cold colour so you need to put a warmer colour on the walls. You need to define ‘nice’ does ‘nice’ to you mean cosy and comfy or does it mean stylish and contemporary.

  5. For collars I like Martingale collars. They are fabric and can be made in tons and tons of designs. Google martingale collar and you’ll see a bunch of places where you can order them. They are great for dogs that have smaller heads.
