Roberta Di Camerino

Roberta Di Camerino reminds me of Norma Kamali in that the designs don’t change much from season to season (and haven’t for years), and while the pieces are timeless and instantly recognizable, they’ll never have the must-have “it” factor that will bring them mass appeal, but you know what, all that adds up to a great investment piece (especially for those looking for one that’s more original than what you’ll see knocked-off on every street corner!). I’ve come across Roberta Di Camerino bags from time to time (Barneys stocked a few for awhile), but it wasn’t until a trip to Rome circa 2004 that I was able to check-out a wide variety of the designer’s pieces. One of my best purchases to date was a velvet Roberta wallet I bought on that trip — believe it or not I’ve used it pretty much every day since and still often get complements on it (there’s barely – if any- wear-and-tear even after all these years!). I love the doctor shape and simple embellishments of the Roberta handbags and the quality and craftsmanship are impeccable. Check-out some models here, here, and here or inquiry about them when in Italy:-)

  1. Can you tell me the quality of the leather? Also, any idea what color the velvet wallet is? I love cool wallets but can’t tell from any of the sites you posted the colors. Do you really carry a velvet wallet year round? Thanks for sharing!

  2. The quality is tops..literally it looks almost as good as new and I use it almost everyday…mine is black patterned velvet and over-sized. The colors of her bags are often a dark apple green, rusty red, and black…

  3. Roberta Di Camerino is a living legend – Grace Kelly and others have carried her bags during the brand’s prime. Unfortunately, the brand’s values have eroded significantly and last year it was sold to the Sixty Group. I think most of Roberta Di Camerino fans will be heartbroken to find out the brand is being re-introduced to the China market as a tier-2 “Italian” shoe brand :-/ Reading the RFP made my heart ache.

  4. Thats too bad that the brand was sold. Beautiful bags, leather lined, Classic , very high quality. Barney’s has carried them forever.
