Versace Fall 2010

Fast fashion–but this was no H&M or Target collaboration. Instead, to the roaring soundtrack of revving engines (which hinted at a theme), it was clear Donatella Versace’s device for her short and sexy looks this winter would be fast-paced motocross and unapologetically flashy. Naturally, daywear and tailoring was a focus, as has been for most designers, but in a twist that was uniquely Versace, she injected a biker motif from the mirrored leathers to the rugged black boots. These are clothes for girls living in the fast lane. There was plenty to love about this collection. The silhouette was signature Versace: short, sexy and skintight with tailored fit-and-flare molds with nipped waists. Plenty of color here, from egg yolk yellow and pimento red to ultraviolet with anchor shades of navy and wood brown sent out on flared coats, reworked “Matrix”-style biker jackets, one-sleeved dresses, spray-on leather panelled pants, backless curly lamb gilet, sporty turtle-neck tops, color-blocked minidresses and the pièce de résistance signature gowns with thigh-high splits. This being Versace and all, details and trims were nothing if not bold: chain fringing, sporty halter necks, racer backs and daring cutaways and bejeweled tracks that snaked across the torso paired with second-skin biker boots with towering heels and cutout fronts and extra-long gloves and short-handled framed bags. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broken, why fix it?
