Dree Hemingway in Valentino Haute Couture

She may be the great-granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, but there’s nothing bearded and burly when it comes to Dree Hemingway. The model simply stole the show at Thursday night’s amfAR gala in Cannes (sponsored by Giorgio Armani) when she arrived in this Valentino Haute Couture creation designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. I never would’ve thought this dress was Valentino–my first thoughts were Pucci? Vintage Ungaro? Rodarte?–but with modern times come the need for evolution. And what splendid progress. This “Gouache” draped dress in porcelain, opaline, absinthe and yellow fluorescent, paired with Valentino couture shoes, looks killer on Dree’s thin and tall frame. Minus the burst of neon, this dress would have completely washed Dress out. Personally, I adore the wisps of fabric that float from the bottom of her skirt–almost as if the fabric cutter had fallen asleep with a pair of scissors. It’s a fabulous young, energetic dress that doesn’t scream vulgarity; rather, it says “I’m fun, enjoy life and love a great party!” Because, at the end of the day, isn’t that what a Valentino gown is all about?
