Although at times a bit off kilter, Phillip Lim showed his skill at suit design with a spring collection of coveted suiting that was easily his best category design to date. While it’s true that his men’s line is still a work in progress, it’s good to see that he’s taking risks with cuts, fabrics, styles and colors–particularly when they come in the form of “bougie blue.” Lim’s guy this season was “The Bougie Rocker,” a guy that’s confident enough to pull off any look (that would include a mix of Steven McQueen influences meets eighties fashion victim). Confidence is key when it comes to wearing some of these pieces, in particular beaded paisley embroidered pants, black translucent viscose rib knits and a belted vest with a poplin back.
